The wrestling season opened in Polson with all of the valley teams competing at the invitational. Although Sentinel ran away with the championship, Hamilton had a good showing, placing fifth behind Sentinel, Polson, Columbia Falls, and Eureka. Corvallis, under new coach Matt Davis, was eighth. Florence and Stevensville tied with 44 points each in the middle of the pack.
Justin Hinson of Hamilton defeated Mason Griffin with a pin at 3:01 in the 182 division to take the championship.
Hamilton had two other wrestlers place in the top four in different weight divisions. Michael Golden was fourth at113 and many Rivera was second in the 160 division. Corvallis’ Luke Channer was third at 185 pounds and Carter Brown was fourth at 103 pounds. Stevensville’s Ben Crews was fourth at 170. Florence’s Jace Pancake was third at 182.
The Hamilton Invitational will be this Saturday at 9 a.m.
