Non-partisan commissioner elections still on the draft ballot

September 29, 2015 by Editor

By Michael Howell

The Ravalli County Local Government Study Commission has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday, October 6, to adopt its Tentative Report which includes some measures that it is recommending to place on the next election ballot, including the question of whether there should be three or five commissioners and whether the elections should be partisan or non-partisan.
A move by LGSC Chairman Alan Thompson and LGSC board member Scott Boulanger to remove the question concerning partisan or non-partisan commissioner elections from the draft ballot was defeated a second time at the last meeting. The vote was the same each time, with Thompson and Boulanger voting to remove the question from the ballot and George Corn, Marilee Shockley and Sharon Schroeder voting to keep it on the ballot.
Once the Tentative Report is officially adopted at the October 6 meeting, it will be carried to a series of public hearings for public review and comment.
The schedule for those hearings is:
• FLORENCE- Thursday October 8 at 7 pm at the Florence-Carlton School District Administration Building.
• CORVALLIS- Tuesday, October 13 at 7 pm at the Corvallis School Lunch Room.
• VICTOR- Wednesday, October 14 at 7 pm at the Victor School Multi-purpose Room.
• STEVENSVILLE- Thursday, October 15 at 7 pm at the Stevensville Middle School choir room.
• DARBY- Tuesday, October 20 at 7 pm at the Darby School Lunch Room.
• HAMILTON- Wednesday, October 21 at 7 pm at the Hamilton School District Administration Building.
