The Corvallis boys and girls won the Florence/Darby meet on Thursday even though most of the Corvallis varsity teams had limited participation. Corvallis relied on their large junior varsity teams and anchored them with a few varsity athletes. Stevensville took second in the boys team scoring.
In the girls’ scoring, Corvallis’ veteran 400-relay team won with a time of 51.37. That team is made up of Hannah Gale, Penny Jessop, Halee Jessop and Katelyn Frost. Another Blue Devil, Zena Smith, won both the shot put and the javelin. Her throw of 33’9” was two feet longer than Carlyjean Conley of Victor who placed second. Smith’s winning throw in the javelin was 117’4”.
Darby’s Keely Ehmann was a double winner. She took the 200, edging out Katelyn Frost of Corvallis. Ehmann ran away from the field in the 400. Her time of 1:00.06 was over two seconds faster than Penny Jessop of Corvallis. Darby’s Lily Lang won the 3,200 with a time of 12:16.68.
Florence’s Alexis Taulbee had another winning run in the 300 hurdles. She stopped the clock with a time of 50.09. Teammate Ally Rust came in second and Stevensville’s Megan Pendergast was third in that event.
The Corvallis boys won the team scoring behind the wins of Jayce Gilder in the shot put and Ronald Venema’s win in the 3,200. Gilder’s threw the shot 46’2 ½” inches to win that event. Venema clocked 10:17.69 in the 3,200. Teammates Andrew Jessop and Josh Jessop finished second and third in that event.
Stevensville’s Daniel Pendergast won both the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. He also placed in the 200-meter race. Teammate Jadin Casey won the 400 and set a new mark to beat in Class A in the state with a time of 49.95. Casey also won the high jump with the bar set at 6 feet.
Darby’s Joe Caicedo won the javelin with a throw of 176’8”. This is the best throw in Class C to date. His teammate, John Beckers, was second with a throw of 156 feet.
Hamilton, Corvallis, Stevensville and Florence scored points at the Missoula Invitational on Saturday. More than 900 athletes competed in the event. Corvallis finished second, behind Flathead, in the boys’ team scoring. Taylor Sylvester won the 200 with a time of 22:41. Tyler Olson won the javelin with a throw of 189-10. The 4×100 relay team made up of Hunter Bumgarner, Taylor Sylvester, Ronny Jessop and Jesse Sims, won that race with a time of 44.66. That is the fastest in Class A right now. Other Blue Devils who finished in the top six were: Jack Powell, sixth in the 110 hurdles; Tieson Lewis, sixth in the 300 hurdles; Cameron Koener, tied for third in the pole vault at 12 feet; Sims, third in the shot put (48’8”) and third in the discus (154’); Luke Channer, fourth in the shot put (45’7”); and the 1,600 relay team who finished third behind Belgrade and Glacier.
Stevensville’s Jaden Casey was won the 400 with a time of 50.29. He was second in the 200 and second in the 300 hurdles. Pendergast won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40:32. Pendergast was second in the 110 hurdles. The Yellowjackets’ 1,600-relay team finished fourth.
Hamilton’s Karill Apedaile was third in the 800 with a time of 2:00.31. Cameron Meikle finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:37.42, just over three tenths of a second behind first place. He was third in the 3,200 with a time of 9:50.23. Aiden Camody was tied for third in the pole vault at 12 fee. Ky Burch finished second in the triple jump with an effort of 42’4”.
Florence’s Connor Thorne finished tied for fifth in the high jump at 5’10”.
