I moved to the Bitterroot Valley from a place south of Darby almost ten years ago. When I settled here, I noticed how almost everyone waved as you passed by each other in your vehicle. I actually saw a report on the local news about the “Montana Wave,” and felt how special it was to be able to recognize your fellow Bitterrooters in this way. I remember thinking, if I waved at people in my former town, it would probably end in a police report, or at least a “finger wave,” back at me.
But recently I’ve noticed that the Montana wave is hardly used anymore. That’s disappointing to say the least. Let’s bring it back. Maybe not while traveling on Hwy 93, or Eastside Hwy, but how about Hamilton Heights, or Golf Course, or other non major thoroughfares. Let’s stay friendly Montana. Differences in opinions, sure, but l say “keep Montana friendly.”
