by Scott Sacry, Sports Editor

Hamilton hosted Corvallis in their annual winter sports “Triple Header” on Thursday, January 8. The three “heads” of the event were boys basketball, wrestling, and girls basketball, as the two schools went head to head in these three events. First, the boys basketball teams played, then the two varsity wrestling squads squared off, and finally, to end the night, the two girls basketball teams clashed.

Boys game

The Hamilton boys jumped out to a 14-4 first quarter lead and were up 35-9 at halftime. Corvallis steadied the ship in the second half, but wasn’t able to chip into the lead as Hamilton rolled to a 61-31 victory.

For Hamilton, Jake McCarthy led the scoring with 14 points, Taylor Doleac had 13, Cash Lockhart had 10, Kaeden Gum had 8, Trevyn Bakken had 6, Easton Hollis had 4, and Asher Griffin, Sawyer Dowd, and Cooper Weston each added 2.

Wrestling matches

The Hamilton and Corvallis wrestling teams rolled out the mats on center court between the basketball games. The Hamilton boys have nine wrestlers on the 2025-2026 roster, as opposed to Corvallis who has 31. So it wasn’t technically a duel between the two teams, it was more an exhibition between the schools. There were four girls matches – Corvallis won three while Hamilton won one. There were five boys matches – Corvallis won three and Hamilton won two.

Girls game

The Hamilton and Corvallis girls teams were evenly matched and played a competitive game. Hamilton led 16-9 after the first quarter, but Corvallis made a push in the 2nd quarter to narrow the gap and Hamilton led by just one point at halftime, 23-22. The third quarter was even as Hamilton led 35-34 heading into the 4th quarter. The Corvallis girls took control in the 4th quarter and outscored the Broncs 17-7, and Corvallis won the game 51-42.

Hamilton vs Polson

The Hamilton girls and boys basketball teams went to Polson on Saturday, January 10 to battle the Pirates. In the girls game, Hamilton came out strong and led 14-11 after the 1st quarter and 24-21 at half. But the Broncs went cold in the second half and lost to Polson 44-52.

The boys game was just the opposite, as Hamilton trailed 10-16 after one quarter and 21-23 at halftime. The Broncs then had a big 3rd quarter, where they outscored Polson 20-7 to propel them to the 48-39 victory.
