Climate change

September 9, 2025 by Guest Post

by John Schneeberger, Hamilton

Misinformation is widespread on the Internet, case in point Joe Rogan‘s interview with Mel Gibson, where the topic was climate change. Not that either are experts on climate change, as was indicated by their ignorant remarks. Firstly, Gibson serves up the old chestnut of how can you have ocean rise when your glass of water doesn’t overflow when the ice melts. If you don’t know the rebuttal to this, you need to educate yourself. The problem is not sea ice melting but land ice melting in Antarctica and Greenland, which is already causing sea level rise. Imagine a block of ice in a funnel over your already full glass of water. Joe Rogan eagerly agreed with Gibson that human caused climate change was a bunch of baloney and chimed in with a report from the Washington Post, which he said showed a decline in temperatures in the past “several thousand years.” He then produced a graph showing global temperature changes over 450 million years, which was largely level with a slight dip and then tiny uptick at the very end of the line. Anybody see a problem here? An instructive point on that line shows an uptick, millions of years ago, similar to the one we are experiencing now, which was a 10°C increase over 50,000 years that led to the mass extinctions. We are now looking at a 4°C increase over less than 100 years. We also have 8 billion people on this planet, all dependent upon such things as a stable climate to keep their houses from going underwater and providing enough arable land to feed everyone. Again do you see a problem here? The problem is the speed of climate change, and our ability to adapt. That is a huge problem, even for those who listen to Joe Rogan.

Joe Rogan was a liberal and vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders until he saw what the Democrats were hiding under the couch cushions John. He wised up, maybe you should do the same.

I’ve got news for you John, misinformation is more widespread in the Bitterroot Star. Take your climate propaganda above for example. I’ve been going to the same spot on the ocean for years. The ocean level today is exactly the same as it was 53 years ago

Thousands of scientists using sophisticated equipment have documented the rise in sea levels, but you’re going with your anecdotal experience to overrule them? What device were using to take your measurements 53 years ago? I assume you’ve been using the same reference point when you’ve diligently taken these measurements every year? How do account for the fact that the levels change throughout the day due to tides and that not all high/low tides have the same effect? This reminds of the argument that when we look at the ocean, we don’t see the curvature of the earth, so the earth must be flat (I hope you’re not a flat-earther, but wouldn’t be shocked if you were).

But since you love anecdotes, how about the fact that downtown Miami now floods on fairly regular basis during just slightly higher than average high tides. No hurricane or storm surge, just high tides. This used to be rare, but no longer is.

112 years ago, Miami had it’s worst flood from 9-11 inches of rain. Do some research before you spout off. I follow the Scientists who disagreed and get slandered by your scientists who are on the payroll of the Climate Scammers,
Follow the money is always my motto, and your scientists have awfully large wallets.

Learn how to read. I was talking about flooding from high tides, not storms. This started with you bringing up sea levels.

There’s only one political party in one country on earth that doubts the reality of human-caused climate change and that’s the republican party in the US, a party that is coincidently bankrolled by petroleum companies. As you say, follow the money. I know a lot of research scientists and they are definitely not rich. ExxonMobil has had their in-house scientists researching climate change for decades, which has led them to invest heavily in renewable energy. They’re not dumb. All of this while paying outside scientists to sew doubt in climate change research. I understand why they do what they do ($$$), but I’ll never understand why people like you go along with it. You’ve been duped.

No sir, you have. The democrats have been funded by solar, wind energy companies for decades. How about the solar companies we the people funded, that went immediately bankrupt but all democrat donors got filthy rich, as did the DNC. What happened to the EV charging stations Biden and Pete promised? I’ll tell you, it’s in Democrat fat cats’ pockets. If tides are rising why is the water line exactly the same as it was 53years ago? Your “scientists” promised us Florida would be under water by now. Those same fools told us back in the 70’s we’d be under a sheet of ice by now.
