Trump Effect 5

April 1, 2025 by Guest Post

by Linda Schmitt, Corvallis

Amid everything else, amid the chaos of Trump attacks and his illegal uproars, now it’s the libraries. The agency that supports public libraries nationwide is being threatened by DOGE. Millions and millions of Americans use the libraries regularly for books, newspapers, tapes, children’s programs, access to internet and more. All you have to do is visit our excellent local libraries to see what an asset they are to all of us.

Libraries are funded locally but are supplemented by federal grants to update technology and train staff. Who among us has not needed technology assistance? The demands on libraries nationwide are constant, predictable and their services are worth protecting. Do you think this use of taxpayer dollars is fraud, waste or abuse? If you think not, contact the Montana delegation to Washington and tell them so. Most Montanans, I believe, would like to continue to enjoy the sunlight they shed on knowledge, information and connectivity.

Oddly enough, Mike, I am unaware of any libraries closed by Biden. I am aware of billions of dollars he arranged to help offset the ravages of covid on these facilities.

You’re right, and no libraries have been closed either this time under Trump, but here the libs are crying and saying they’re closed.

The major shutdowns during the pandemic occurred in 2020. Biden was not the president in 2020, your man-crush was.

Linda Schmitt, you didn’t cry about closed libraries or fired federal workers when Biden shuttered libraries during the covid panic and fired federal workers. Why the bias?
