Trapping NOT our heritage

April 2, 2024 by Guest Post

by Judy Hoy, Stevensville

In the March 20, Bitterroot Star, Mr. Brad Davis claims that trapping should be protected in a constitutional amendment. Most kind and caring residents of Montana know that trapping is extremely inhumane to any animal caught. Trapping also tortures, maims and kills many non-target birds and mammals, including treasured pets, and wild animals that are in danger of extinction. When people from Europe colonized North America, those that trapped wildlife were responsible for nearly causing the extinction of several of our most important keystone wildlife species. It has taken many years and a great deal of effort to recover those that have been. Some are still endangered.

Also, all Montana citizens, who do not want their precious, intelligent dog maimed or killed in a deadly trap or snare, certainly would not want any other animal harmed in such a barbaric manner.

We now live in the 21st Century. Fur is no longer needed by humans. We also now are, unfortunately, in the middle of the 6th Mass Extinction according to many scientific studies. We need to do everything we can to protect our wildlife. Or quite likely that heritage that Mr. Davis talks about passing on to his children will be extinction of most life on the planet in just a few decades.

The fact is that dogs are rarely caught in traps. If they are it is because the owners do not think their dogs are precious or intelligent. It is the owners who let their dogs run freely and crap all over the forest with out any regard for other users while breaking the law.

If elected I will work to make sure the people have a write to vote on trapping being added to the constitution. Just like they did when they voted against out lawing trapping before . Elect BRAD DAVIS for Senate Dist. #44 to Protect our Heritage

Yea Brad, whatever. Blah, Blah, Blah! You’re just another slob harvester with no capacity for fair chase. I listen to you and all I hear is everyone else is to blame for your indiscriminate sets. My God, you maim, torture and kill critters and you’re bitching about dogs crapping in the forest. You entitled piece of sh_ _!

      Brad,
It must be exhausting to remain in constant contact with all the veterinarians in Montana to monitor how few dogs are injured in traps. I mean, you must do that to be able to say so definitively dogs are rarely injured in traps.
