Advanced Imaging of Montana has moved its Stevensville 3D mammography services to Community Physician Group at 3800 Eastside Highway, Suite C. The new location is now open, with parking and entrance in the back of the Community Physician Group building
“Our Stevensville location offers the latest 3DTM Digital Mammography to residents of the Bitterroot Valley,” said Casey Schmitz, MD, Advanced Imaging medical director. “3D mammography provides state-of-the-art breast imaging with lower radiation and short exam times. Most patients are in and out in 15 minutes.”
For 20 years, Advanced Imaging has provided mammography and imaging services to the residents of Western Montana, with its main location on the Community Medical Center campus in Missoula. The service provider has a team of 18 radiologists who are specialists in a variety of areas including breast imaging.
“Many studies have found that 3D mammography appears to lower the chance of being called back after screening for follow-up testing,” according to the American Cancer Society in comparing 3D mammography services to 2D. “It also appears to find more breast cancers, and several studies have shown it can be helpful in women with more dense breasts.”
ACS guidelines recommend women at average risk for breast cancer have the option to start annual mammogram screening between the ages of 40 and 44. The guidelines recommend women 45 to 54 have a mammogram every year. Women 55 and older can continue with annual mammograms or choose to switch to every other year. The ACS also recommends women who are at high risk for breast cancer based on certain factors should get a breast MRI and a mammogram every year, typically starting at age 30. All women should consult with their primary care physician to discuss screening options and when to start mammogram screening based on their individual risk factors. More ACS screening guidelines can be found at cancer.org.
“At our new Stevensville location, we will continue to offer walk-in mammography appointments,” Schmitz added. “It is important to us to make mammograms as accessible as possible so that women can easily prioritize their health within their busy schedules.”
Advanced Imaging’s Stevensville location is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Appointments can be made at 406-327-3950, and walk-ins are welcome. More information about Advanced Imaging’s services and physicians can be found at advancedimagingofmt.com.
