Governor ignores Montana’s people

May 17, 2023 by Guest Post

by Archie L. Thomas, Merry E. Schrumpf, Corvallis

Governor Greg Gianforte vetoed Senate Bill 442.

He ignored 137 legislators, county commissions, local governments, farmers and ranchers, hunters, veterans, EMTs, plus thousands of Montanans who have voiced their opinion directly to make sure this historic public lands bill became law. Prior to the governor’s veto decision, many of Montana’s lawmakers stood with Montana citizens. Senate Bill 442 soared through both chambers, passing the Senate 48-1 and the House 82-17.

For months, the Gianforte administration said that when  good bipartisan bills hit  the governor’s desk, he’d sign them. Our representatives and senators held up their end of the deal, but the governor didn’t. SB 442 is bipartisan. It’s secured historic investments in habitat conservation, water conservation, weed management, public access, and more.

Governor Gianforte is supposed to listen to and serve the public, not turn his back on the needs of our people, our public lands, and our wildlife. Call the Montana Secretary of State asking the Montana Constitution be upheld and that legislators be sent veto override poll immediately. And make your voice heard by calling Governor Gianforte.

Why do you say Gianforte is a carpet bagger? Please post specific reasons. Thank you.

Good call out Archie. Gianforte is a criminal and a punk. He loves to throw down on skinny journalists, women’s rights and now, once again, Montana’s wildlife. In light of knuckle dragging politics in Helena it’s becoming an embarrassment admitting to live in Montana. When are the citizens of this ‘once’ great state going to wake up and realize the reins are held by a carpetbagger?
