James ‘Jim’ Lisle Jewell

November 8, 2022 by Editor

Victor – James “Jim” Lisle Jewell, of Victor passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus on October 28, 2022 at St. Patrick hospital in Missoula, MT with his family by his side. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sports.  Particularly his Denver Broncos, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Boston Red Sox.  Dad loved his grandchildren and would bake his chocolate chip, marshmallow cake for birthdays and enjoyed making “medicine fudge” as he called it for the grandkids at every opportunity. He lost his wife of 56 years on Sunday, the 23rd, and we choose to believe that the bond formed was too strong to keep them apart.

James was born on November 3, 1934, to George Lisle Jewell and Evelyn (Lambertsen) Jewell in Dixon County, NE. Jim was one of five children: Nina, George, Edwin “Pete” and Betty. He graduated high school at the age of 16 and did cement work until he joined the U.S. Army, in 1955, serving two years. After his discharge, he soon followed his brothers to Denver, Colorado where he met and eventually married the love of his life Leanna Fryberger on July 5, 1966. They had two children, Michael and Susan. They moved to Montana in 1982, and Jim eventually retired from the Hamilton Post office.

“Papa,” as he was lovingly called by his grandchildren, is survived by his children: Michael (Debbie), of Billings, MT and Susan, of Victor, MT; four grandchildren: Christina (of Billings), Andrew (of Billings), Michael (of Billings) and Steven (of Victor); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

A memorial service for Lee and Jim will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at the River Church, 354 Cooper Lane, in Hamilton. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
