Corvallis cross country teams shine at State

Cross country runners from Corvallis, Hamilton, Stevensville, Florence, and Darby braved the elements and had some outstanding performances at the State Cross Country Meet in Missoula at the University Golf Course on Saturday, October 22nd. 

The following individuals finished in the top 10 in their class:

Florence sophomore Kyler Harris finished 4th (15:56) in Class B boys.

Darby freshman Lily Adair finished 5th (20:42) in Class C girls.

Corvallis junior Laurie Davidson finished 5th (19:46) in Class A girls.

Corvallis senior Keller Brothers finished 9th (16:51) in Class A boys.

Darby senior William Martin finished 9th (18:01) in Class C boys.

Corvallis senior Amara Auch finished 10th (20:08) in Class A girls.

Hamilton freshman Taylor Doleac finished 10th (16:53) in Class A boys.

Corvallis had a terrific state meet, with the girls’ team finishing in 2nd place and the boys’ team finishing 3rd. Joanne Cleveland is in her 18th year as Corvallis Head Coach, and when asked about this year’s team, she said, “We had a great group of kids this year, with 35 total kids going out.” Cleveland continued, “It’s a big commitment for the kids, we have a winter running program, a summer running program, and we have track season. They put in a tremendous amount of work and it’s special to see the results.”

Besides Davidson and Auch, the rest of the girls’ team included Autumn Benson (21st place, 20:48), Ella Varner (25th place, 21:05), Casie Stornetta (30th place, 21:14), Olivia Buoy (47th place, 22:21), and Violet Jessop (24:19).

Besides Brothers, the rest of the boys’ team included Jack Davidson (14th, 16:60), Clay Truth (31st place, 17:50), Owen Dunn (35th place, 17:57), Sebastian Cardullo (43rd place, 18:06), Marrek Jessop (45th place, 18:06), and Gavin Hagberg (54th place, 18:18).

The Hamilton girls finished just off the podium in 4th place. Kinga Kari finished 12th (20:13) and Madi Nelson finished 24th (21:04). The other finishers included Sierra Berry (33rd, 21:24), Ryanne Child (41st, 22:09), Reagan Burrows (44th, 22:15), Sierra Poulsen (49th, 22:26), and Lily Apedaile (23:41).

The Hamilton boys finished in 8th place. Besides Doleac, the other finishers included Evan Bennett (16th,17:04), Bryson Poulsen (24th, 17:32), Cody Davis (69th, 18:45), Thomas Rockwell (19:25), Cooper Burrows (19:42), and Soren Nelson (21:35).

The Darby boys finished in 7th place in Class C. Besides Martin, the Darby boys’ finishers included Cullen Duggan (16th, 18:16), Taylor Graham (20:58), and Atticus Atkins (22:59). For the Darby girls, Victoria Xifra (27:14) was the other finisher besides Adair.

The following are the results for the Stevensville runners: Theresa Malachinski ((25:49), Eric Potter (19:16), Cody Bradford (20:03), Keith Nyholm (20:32), Delaware Braveman (23:11), Jacob Blyton (23:12), and Marin Masar (24:16).

The Florence girls had two finishers, Bailey Kroeker (46th, 22:55) and Kris Schmidt (28:16). Besides Harris, the Florence boys’ finishers included CJ Pijanowski (19:26), Seba Schroeder (19:31), Grant Schoenfeld (20:19), and Scout Hamilton (21:22).
