Several Bitterroot Valley track and field teams participated in the MCPS invite in Missoula on Saturday, April 16th. The event was stacked with top athletes from a host of AA, A, B and C schools. The athletes had to contend with spring in Montana, as temperatures hovered around freezing, and the stadium was filled with strong winds and snow showers. The athletes fought through the adversity, but around 1:30 the snowfall became too much and all events were canceled after the completion of the girls 200m.
Bitterroot athletes excelled despite these adversities. On the girls side, Madison Lewis of Corvallis won the Shot Put with a throw of 37-08. Claire Hutchison of Stevensville took second in the 200m in the middle of a blizzard with a time of 27.22. Farah Wyche of Corvallis took 3rd in the 100m with a time of 13.13. Hamilton’s Layne Kearns took 3rd in the Triple Jump with a jump of 34-05. Ayda Griffin of Hamilton took 4th in the High Jump with a jump of 4-10 and Wren Jensen of Hamilton took 5th with a jump of 4-8. Mya Winkler took 6th in the Shop Put with a throw of 33-00.
For the Boys, Hamilton’s Lane Cole won the 800m with a time of 1:58.76.
