Don’t kill the rabbits

March 30, 2022 by Guest Post

by Debbie Mason, Hamilton

This letter is in regards to the article in your newspaper dated March 23 stating Hamilton considers killing all of the many rabbits in town. Those rabbits have been around from what I understand since the 70’s. The Black Rabbit RV Park was named after all these rabbits.  As for being wildlife or domesticated, I would say after all these generations, these amimals are considered wildlife. Leave them alone! We let deer, moose, raccoons and various other wildlife into our neighborhoods.  After all, we are a small rural town!

I think the city council and Mayor should stop wasting their time on this matter and start enforcing the rules regarding all the years of unsightly trash in the alleys and yards that has been left by homeowners. As I walk my dogs through these alleys and some front yards too, I see junk that has been sitting out from decades ago!  Who leaves such a mess? There’s a couch that has weeds growing out of the cushions!  And why does someone have two wrecked 1970’s cars sitting on blocks behind their house? People, have a little respect for yourself, if not your neighbors!

There used to be an officer who went around giving citations to clean things up.  He told me one house was cited 4 times but nobody followed up on those citations so the junk keeps piling up!

Hamilton is a nice small town.  Let’s have some pride people!  So city council and Mayor….Forget about those innocent rabbits.  Let’s start enforcing those trash and weed laws!

Leave the rabbits alone! They make me smile every time I see them.
