Hyperbole and generalizations

January 25, 2022 by Guest Post

by Archie Thomas & Merry Schrumpf, Corvallis

Deborah Tilden’s letter of 1/19/2022 ended with “Let’s drop the generalizations, hyperbole and political talking points.” I quote the following hyperbole in letter “the lame stream media.” Further quoting your generalizations and talking points include: “THE BIG LIES of some leaders and their partners in the media are divisive, hateful and dangerous to us all, and all our freedoms.” Whose BIG LIES? Which “some leaders”? Which “medias”?

Another quote, “Why did the mayor of DC… reject President Trump’s offer to provide 10,000 national guard troops to make sure order was kept?” Quote your sources, documentation and specific time frame for this tidbit? Consider adding disinformation to your drop list and omitting it from your letter.

At present the FBI has charged over 700 people related to their activities on January 6th. Your 400 storming protestors comment is pointless. If protestors had been successful in overturning the election, the million people on site and America would no longer live in a democracy. You seem to confirm that a million people were at an event, listening and following their leadership, voicing their first amendment rights, peacefully protesting, without a clue the same leadership’s true intent was to overturn the very democratic republic that insures these rights. Rights come with responsibilities which requires critical thinking. Actual reported protesters at event estimated at 120,000.

This letter doesn’t drop labels, hyperbole, political talking points or misinformation but does reveal the of lack critical thinking by the author.
