This past week, former Division 1 basketball coach, Frank McCarthy, put on a basketball camp for athletes ranging from kindergarten to seniors in high school. With about 180 campers participating throughout the week, Coach McCarthy was excited to be sharing his love and knowledge of the game with the young athletes.
“We love working with the kids, watching them get better, and having a lot of fun with the game,” said Coach McCarthy. “We love the enthusiasm in the kids and all of the coaches did such a great job and are great role models.”
With nearly 700 wins to his name as a basketball coach, McCarthy knows what it takes to be a successful basketball player. Not only did he work on improving the athletes’ skills in this camp, he also focused on the bigger picture – the game of life.
“We tell them ‘good players are great listeners,’” said Coach. “We’re just trying to create a love for the game through fundamentals and competition, and hopefully teach them a few things about life along the way.”
“I’d like to thank the Corvallis school district for allowing us to use the gym, Mildenberger Motors (our sponsor), and Dave Bradshaw for his support along the way,” said McCarthy. “We hope to have the same camp next year in the same place, and that wouldn’t be possible without all of their support.”
