Saturday afternoon the Bitterroot Red Sox lost after a good battle with the Gallatin Valley Outlaws in the second game of their double header. After losing the first game 3-6, the Red Sox were determined to redeem themselves in the second game. The Sox started off with an early lead, with Austin Gray on the mound, but lost it in the top of the 4th inning when Gallatin’s Isaac Richardson hit a double, scoring two. The Outlaws went on to score a total of four runs in the 4th inning, raising the score to 6-4. The Sox answered in the bottom of the 5th, with Conner Ekin and Mack Wright collectively driving in three runs.
Going into the bottom of the 8th, trailing the Outlaws by two runs, Paul Brenneman hit a hard ground ball to short stop, scoring two runs in the process. Unfortunately, those were the only runs scored that inning, but they did the job of keeping the Red Sox in the game. Tristan Lewis took the rubber at the top of the 9th, and only one run was allowed after a sac fly to Esten Pierce.
In the end, the Red Sox lost the game 10-9 after failing to get on base at the bottom of the 9th. Despite the loss, the team played a strong game, with only 2 errors. Facing good pitching from the Outlaws, the Sox managed a total of 10 hits. Paul Brenneman, a junior, led the team in RBIs, bringing home 3 total runs. Sawyer Townsend, Mack Wright, and Tristan Lewis all hit a great game, each collecting two hits.
Wednesday, June 2, the Red Sox will play their next home game against the Missoula Eagles at 6 p.m.
