Recreational marijuana licenses to be available by October 2021

November 12, 2020 by Editor

The Montana Department of Revenue has begun the process to make licenses available for recreational marijuana cultivation and sale by October 1, 2021, following the recent voter approval of Initiative 190.

“There’s a lot of work ahead before the first legal sale of non-medical marijuana in Montana, and before the first license is issued,” said Gene Walborn, director of the department. “We look forward to working with the public and all interested parties as we develop guidelines around this new industry to move it forward, while also protecting public safety and raising revenue for the state of Montana.”

Under the new law, the department will license and regulate the cultivation, transportation and sale of marijuana and marijuana-infused products, will inspect premises where marijuana is cultivated or sold, and will collect the 20 percent tax on the retail sales of the products.

Only currently licensed providers in the Montana Medical Marijuana Program may apply for the new non-medical licenses for the first 12 months they are available.

The Montana Legislature is expected to further address some aspects of the initiative at its upcoming session.

Anyone interested in receiving updates can sign up with the department at MTRevenue.gov/Marijuana.

I hope that users and growers are properly informed that they lose their 2nd amendment rights and become federal felons the instant they become licensed. This is because marijuana is still a felony under federal law. That is it legal in the state is not a defense. Google it.

I didn’t vote for this because I saw friends start smoking Marijuana back in the 70’s and from that the marijuana wasn’t giving them the high so they went to other things. These friends all died at very young age hooked on the habit of worst drugs, one lady lost her husband ,kids , and job. I predict that it will in few years become health benefit that tax payers will have to pay for because it will be one of those handicap that people can’t control and so they are needing allot of help medically and mentally because voters handed it to them on silver platter. It will increase more traffic accidents and kill more incest people…..will it be worth it just to get more money for Montana……Montana already gets allot from workers/retirees and land owners with taxes every year…. I just feel bad for the young kids that are growing up in this beautiful state.
