The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue are continuing search operations for 37-year-old Phillip Michael Stokey of Missoula. Stokey was last known to be in the Bass Creek area of Ravalli County and search efforts have been underway since August 13th.
Efforts have included ground, air, and dog searches to date. On August 21st and 22nd, dog teams will be searching the area west of Bass Creek Trailhead. In cooperation with the Bitterroot National Forest, the Bass Creek Trail will be closed to minimize scent interference and give the dog teams a greater chance of success.
Hikers are asked to avoid the area during the search. Sheriff Steve Holton thanked Ravalli County Search and Rescue volunteers, Choice Aviation, Two Bear Air, and Minute Man Aviation for their hours of work and search efforts.
