The 6/17/20 Bitterroot Star – covering Valley news since 1985 – contains an excellent historical, and insightful 100+ year chronology of the Huls Dairy family triumphs, market growths, regulatory constraints, and ultimate recent decision to cease milking. Jean Schurman, thank you! Rumors and half-stories swirled around the Valley, each speculating the reasons why. You told us why and told it well.
Few others, if any, hold the skillset to sell ads, cover local sports in-depth from basketball to rodeos to pickleball, tell us about Jack “Doc” Ward saving Blinkers, report the tradition behind the Corvallis Memorial Day parade.
You add color and character to our neighbors, writing clearly and cogently. You perform this service for us weekly, likely for low monetary recompense, and hopefully a bag or two of MooPoo. Good job!

Jean has always known what she wants! She’s a fabulous person on top of being a fabulous journalist.

I totally agree. Jean Schurman is an excellent news person – I can “hear” her excitement when she writes about an athletic event; when she describes an individual – I can “see” that person. The valley is truly blessed to have this woman in our midst, and the Bitterroot Star, I know, are delighted to have her be part of their family.
Thank you Jean for years of wonderful reporting.
