Ravalli County COVID-19 Incident Management update 5-11-20

May 12, 2020 by Editor

May 11, 2020

As of noon Monday, May 11, 2020, there are no new cases of COVID-19 in Ravalli County.  There were 5 positive cases, and all of the cases have recovered.

Dr. Carol Calderwood, Incident Commander and Ravalli County Public Health Officer:  “Although this is the last formal Incident Management Team meeting today, Monday, May 11, we are prepared to reactivate if necessary. I can’t stress enough that our COVID-19 status in Ravalli County, and the State is because of the personal responsibility every person and business has taken.

“Montana has the second lowest number of positive cases, and third lowest number of fatalities in the United States: Montana – 459 positives cases, 16 fatalities; North Dakota –  1,491 positives cases, 35 fatalities; South Dakota –  3,517 positives cases, 34 fatalities; Idaho – 2,178 positive cases, 67 fatalities; Wyoming –  662 positive cases, 7 fatalities. Alaska has the fewest cases with 379 positive cases, 10 fatalities. [Information from Bing COVID-19 Tracker, as of 11:30 a.m., May 11, 2020]. We know social distancing and personal protective actions make a difference.

“There is a tendency to let our guard down as Montana continues to ‘Reopen the Big Sky.’  Bars and restaurants opened a week ago and museums, theatres, and gyms will open Friday. See Montana COVID-19, JIC [joint information center], Reopening the Big Sky for more information. Montana is still in Phase I of opening. Even in Phase II there may be strong recommendations for distancing. Regardless, it is personal choice and respect of people’s choices.

“From the Ravalli County COVID-19 Incident Management Team and Public Health Department, thank you to the citizens of Ravalli County for your cooperation, selflessness, and respect. It has been our privilege to continue serving our County. We haven’t gone away, and we will be here if we are needed.”

Emergency Operations Center is no longer active. Health inquiries should be directed to the Public Health Office at 406-375-6672
