Danny Wetzel

April 21, 2020 by Editor

Darby – Danny Wetzel, 73, passed away from a lengthy illness Saturday, April 11, 2020 at the Living Centre in Stevensville.

He was born in Pittsburg, CA on November 12, 1946 to Floyd and Zelma Wetzel. Danny grew up in Byron, CA with 8 siblings. In his life, he graduated from high school and went on to study in college after that. He met Sherry Baynes in 1968 and it was love at first sight. They married and had three beautiful daughters.

He served in the 25th infantry of the Army in the Vietnam War in 1966 and was wounded in 1968. He then became a pile driver and drove piles for the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge in San Francisco, CA. Danny also had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and telling lengthy stories. Danny was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He loved to tell stories and talk for hours. Dad’s best buddy was Carl Davidson, who also lived in Darby. Carl and Dad met every morning for their coffee and stories.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyn and Zelma Wetzel; brothers Chester, Lester and Earl Wetzel; and sisters, Freda Tucker and Mary Scoggins.

He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer Wetzel Simonis of Brentwood CA, Shelli Williams of Pittsburg, CA and Shannon Martinez of Antioch, CA; grandsons, Brian Simonis of Winters, CA and Kevin and Catie Simonis and great granddaughter Fiona Simonis. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.whitesittfuneralhome.com.
