In his first three years of office, Trump has made an astonishing 16,241 documented false or misleading claims. This breathtaking number is composed of 1,999 in 2017, 5,689 in 2018, and 8,155 in 2019. At this rate he should easily hit 20,000 by mid-June of 2020.
When it comes to lying, Trump is hands down the very best of any President our country has ever seen!
I do not think lying on this scale is a desirable trait in a President. The only person I ever knew personally who lied as prolifically as Trump was involuntarily committed to a state mental institution. I would not want that fellow to have access to the country’s nuclear launch codes.
I know most Republicans do not share my concern about having a pathological liar in the White House. Trump’s popularity among Republicans in national polls clearly shows that habitual lying by one of their own is not a deal breaker for them.
And you can see in the content of Republican-authored LTEs to the Star – letters which consistently contain scores of false and misleading “facts” – that lying has become the new normal for Republican political discourse.
This is a sad development for our country.
