The Florence girls team will go into the Western B Tournament in Hamilton this weekend as the No. 3 seed from 6B. The Lady Falcons had to play two games this week for the seed. On Friday, they played Anaconda in Anaconda. The game was close in the first half but Anaconda had a strong third quarter and went on to win, 54-42. Emma Stensrud led Florence with 11 points. Coach Duane Zeiler said it’s always tough to play in Anaconda.
On Saturday, Florence played Deer Lodge at Loyola. The Lady Falcons played a tough man defense which created several turnovers that they were able to convert into points early in the game. The Lady Falcons also controlled the boards and pushed the lead to double digits. Deer Lodge was down three starters due to injuries in the last couple of weeks. Florence rested their starters early in the fourth quarter and Deer Lodge made a little run. However with three minutes left in the game, the Florence starters came back in to seal the 44-30 win.Emma Stensrud had 12 points in the win and Kassidy Yeoman added nine.
Florence will advance to the Western B tournament in Hamilton this week. They will play Eureka at 1:30 on Thursday. The Florence boys lost to Arlee in the playin game last Monday and did not advance.
