The nation’s deepest problem

August 13, 2019 by Guest Post

By Bob Israel, Stevensville

Why does our country have such deep problems – such as the endless increasing drug problem, the violent use of guns, and the recent surge in suicides, especially among youth?

A great deal of the problem happens because our schools no longer include in their teachings any clear courses developing strong relationships or clear moral standards.

This lack of essential life understanding is not the fault of the teachers; it is the fault of the educational system.

In the last century, America’s “leading educators” were often men who didn’t believe in God or moral absolutes. No man had more influence than John Dewey – the first honorary head of the American Federation of Teachers.

Dewey hated Christianity and believed in no moral absolutes (no clear right or wrong). So today’s students never have clear courses that teach the essential qualities that make relationships grow and last.

Is it surprising that today hundreds of thousands of requests ask Google, “What is the meaning of life?”

John Dewey disparaged schooling that focused on traditional character development. He said, “You can’t make socialists out of individuals. Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society.” (David Fiorazo, “The NEA Agenda”).

Who’s moral standards would you teach? The last person I wanted(my children are grown) was some teacher or coach teaching their morality, because a lot of times it didn’t mesh with what I thought. And then I had to explain to my kids what the teacher/coach was saying wasn’t right in my mind.
