Valley teams do well in Butte

The annual Laverne Stoddard Softball Invitational in Butte brings teams from the East and the West together for one final time before they may see each other at the state tournament. 

Hamilton came away with three wins and a tie. Jorden Taggart was the winning pitcher for the Lady Broncs and threw one shut-out, a 3-0 win over Miles City. Hamilton also defeated Cut Bank, 9-4, and Havre, 5-4. They tied, 4-4, with Hardin.

Corvallis defeated Laurel, 10-4, with Macee Greenwood as the pitcher. Ashlynn Nixon had two hits including a home run and five RBIs. Corvallis then edged Glendive, 8-7, with Gabby Krueger taking the win. Greenwood had two hits including a double and two RBIs. Maria Hickey also had a double and two RBIs. 

Stevensville topped Anaconda, 11-1 with Sarah Morrison in the pitcher’s circle. Cassi Kopsa had two hits and two RBIs. Ashlin Hiller also had two hits including a double, and two RBIs. The Yellowjackets hammered Browning, 14-0. Joey Oyler was the winning pitcher. Kaylee Berning had two hits and three RBIs. Oyler, Kopsa and Maddie Sims had two RBIs. Morrison and Claire Montague each had an RBI. Belgrade defeated Stevensville, 13-3. Morrison was the losing pitcher. Syd Paul had two hits for Stevi including a double and an RBI. Berning had a double and an RBI also. 

Florence notched three wins and one loss over the weekend. With Kasidy Yeoman pitching, the Lady Falcons took a 13-1 win over Columbus. Emily Kinnaman had three RBIs while Danara Greer and Mackenzie Little had two RBIs each. Natalie Dulac and Yeoman each had an RBI. Florence edged out Glasgow, 11-10, with Yeoman pitching. She also had three hits and two doubles and two RBIs. Kinnaman, another freshman, had four RBIs and a double. Florence topped Shepherd, 16-5, again with Yeoman pitching. Kinnaman had a home run and four RBIs. Kylie Kovatch had a hit and two RBIs. Yeoman, Kolbi Wood, Dani Zahn, Dulac and Little all hit RBIs. Florence’s final game was against Huntley Project. The Red Devils shut out Florence, 14-0.
