
When Calla Haldorson of Corvallis stepped onto the podium at the Class A State Track Meet in Laurel, she made history. Haldorson, a senior, became the first female in Montana to win the championship in the same event, the discus, four years in a row. As a freshman, she won with a throw of 129-05. In 2017, her throw of 147-11 won the event and was the longest throw in Class A this year. Last year, she had a throw of 143-10. This year, she threw 147-07 to win the four-peat. This was almost 17 feet farther than second place. She also took sixth in the shot put.
The Corvallis girls finished third overall. Whitefish won first and Dillon was second. Hamilton was fifth for the girls.
Denali Smith of Corvallis took third in the javelin with a throw of 119-02. Angelica Street of Columbia Falls won with a throw of 156-11. Lainie Albright of Corvallis was sixth with a throw of 113-09. Smith took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 34-04. In the distance races, three Blue Devils placed in the three races. Bree Lewis was fifth in the 800, Hannah Martin was fifth in the 1,600 and Lili Day was third in the 3,200. Maureen Jessop finished her high school career with a third place finish in the 100 hurdles. Hannah Hutchison was third in the high jump and Kailen Herbstritt finished sixth in the pole vault. The 4×100 relay finished fourth.

Hamilton’s Brynnli Poulson took first in the 800 with a time of 2:17.86. She was second in the 1,600 and in the 3,200. Bea Frissell of Polson won both the 1,600 and the 3,200. Katelyn Dickemore finished third in the discus with a throw of 123-11.50. She was fifth in the shot put. Ashley Searle was sixth in the high jump.
Stevensville’s Ashton Lewis finished second in the long jump with a leap of 17-05.25. Lewis was third in the 400 meter race and sixth in the 100.
Hamilton’s Michael Graves finished first in the javelin with a throw of 184-11. Jacob Campbell finished second in the shot put with a throw of 56-01.5. Carter Hughes of Sidney won with a distance of 56-07. Campbell was third in the discus with a throw of 147-07. Hughes won that event also with a throw of 163-02. Colter Kirkland finished sixth in the 1,600 with a personal best time of 4:41.44. Levi Tayler of Laurel won with 4:33.37.
Garrett Brown of Corvallis finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 52-10.25. Will Flowers was third in the 3,200. Logan Lewis finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 42-08.
Darby’s Casey Ehmann defended her state championship in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 46.60, four-tenths of a second faster than second place. Ehmann was also third in the 100 hurdles. Donavan Chaffin of Darby had a personal best of 10:24.71 to finish fourth in the 3,200.
