The Dillon Beavers and the Corvallis Blue Devils went 1-2 in the boys team results and then swapped places for the girls team scoring. There were several personal bests set in the one day meet which featured teams from southwest Montana.
Perhaps the most exciting event of the day was the boys shot put where Corvallis’ Garrett Brown and Hamilton’s Jacob Campbell have been battling back and forth for the top spot. Saturday, Brown set a personal best, broke a school record and threw the second longest put of the year in the state with 56-05.50. Campbell threw 53-01.50 for second. Kellen Jones of Stevensville was third with 45-09.00. Donald Carlson of Hamilton was fifth and James Talia of Corvallis was sixth.
The two, Campbell and Brown, switched places in the discus with Campbell winning with a throw of 138-06. Brown’s effort was 134-03. Tyler Burrows of Hamilton was fourth with 127-02 and Tanner Pendergast of Stevensville was sixth with a throw of 118-04.
Hamilton’s Michael Graves set a personal best of 196-05 in the javelin. This is the best throw by a Class A thrower in the state. Jameson Vetter of Hamilton was fifth with 138-10 and Rory Jessop of Hamilton took sixth with 135-02.
Michael Haverfield of Dillon took the high jump with a leap of 6-04. However, Logan Roth finished second with a personal best of 5-10. He is from Stevensville. Trey Searle of Hamilton finished fifth with 5-06. Searle also finished in the top six in the pole vault with a vault of 11-06, a personal best and good enough for fifth place.
In the long jump, Logan Lewis of Corvallis was third with a personal best of 20-4.50. Teammate Landen Conner was fourth with 19-03.5, his best effort this year. Logan Lewis and Roth battled in the triple jump also. Logan Lewis finished in third place with a 40-0-0 effort while Roth was fourth with 39-07.0. Jimmy Kostecky of Hamilton was sixth with 35-00.25.
On the track, Corvallis and Hamilton battled in the 1,600 with Will Flowers of Corvallis and Colter Kirkland of Hamilton finishing in first and second. Flowers’ time was 4:52.00. Kirkland broke the plane at 4:57.00. Cole Henry of Corvallis was third with 4:58.00 and Brian Healy of Corvallis was fifth. Wes Brown of Stevensville finished sixth with 5:02.00.
Harrison Silverio of Hamilton won the 3,200 with a time 10:52.95. Teammate Logan VanDenburg finished fourth with 11:27.89 and Tanner Nead of Hamilton was sixth with 11:45.17. Corvallis’s Healy was third in the long race with 11:06.75 and James Wissenbach finished in fifth place with 11:38.96.
In the shorter races, Dallin Jessop of Corvallis was sixth in the 100. Jakob Dalbey finished third in the 200 and Seth Stoker tied for sixth in that race. David Thurman was third in the 400 and Connor Yetter finished fifth in the 800. Hamilton’s Lane Cole was fourth in the 800. Caden Brown was second in the 200 with Rory Jessop finishing fourth.
Ashton Lewis of Stevensville was the big winner of the day. She won the long jump with a leap of 17-00.50. Ashton Lewis also won the 200 with a time of 28.04 and was second in the 100 and the 400. Jazmine Jones of Stevensville won the javelin by one inch over Tynn Christiansen of Dillon. Jones’ throw was 120-01. Hailey Neisinger, a freshman from Stevensville, finished fourth in the 400. Kylie Rhoades finished fifth in the triple jump to round out Stevensville’s scoring.
Corvallis won the team scoring and brought home six first place finishes. Hannah Martin won the 1,600 meter race with a time of 5:42.53. Lilli Day was second, Rose Day, third, and Katie Gleason finished fourth in that race. Lilli Day won the 3,200 with a time of 12:39.56, almost 20 seconds faster than second place. Gleason finished third. Kailee McCready won the 300 hurdles with 48.25. Calla Haldorson continued to dominate in the discus with a throw of 146-06, 22 feet farther than second place. This is currently the top throw in the state. Hannah Hutchison won the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-00. Kailen Herbstritt won the pole vault with a vault of 10-03 to round out the first place finishes.
Corvallis also had several others who made it to the podium. Amelia Jessop was fifth in the 200 and Kathryn Rowley finished sixth in that race. Whitney Wyche was third in the 400. Bree Lewis finished second in the 800 with Rose Day finished fourth and Elizabeth Varner finishing fifth. Maureen Jessop was third in the 100 hurdles with Nyssa Schairer right behind in fourth. Maureen Jessop was also third in the high jump. Ceara Chavez’s leap in the long jump was 10 inches shy of the winner. Wyche and Brooke Powell finished fourth and fifth in that event. Chavez finished sixth in the triple jump.
Denali Smith was second in the shot put with a throw of 34-08.50. She was fifth in the discus and third in the javelin. Also in the throwing events, Madison Lewis was fifth in the shot put. In the discus, Kaitlyn Weidow finished third, Charlotte Powell was fourth, and Brooke Powell was sixth. Brooke Powell was also fifth in the javelin.
Hamilton had a couple of winners. Brynnli Poulsen set a personal best time in the 800 with a time of 2:22.53. That is currently the top Class A time in the state. Katelyn Dickemore heaved the shot put 35-05.5 to win that event. She was second in the discus with a throw of 124-04 and fourth in the javelin with a throw of 103-08. Ashley Searle tied for first in the high jump with a 5 feet leap.
Other Hamilton athletes who placed were: Makalie Schmidt, fourth in the 100; Sarah Passey, fourth in the 3,200; Hannah Hurst, fourth in the 300 hurdles; Camas Crattey, fourth in the high jump; Becca Parker, third in the pole vault, sixth in the long jump and third in the triple jump with a personal Brest of 32-07; and Keanna Clark, fourth in the pole vault.
Donavon Chaffin of Darby won the 3,200 at the Kim Haines Track Meet in Missoula with a time of 10:41.22, five one hundredths of a second ahead of second place. Nathanial Gale of Florence was sixth with a time of 11:01.91. Dalton Hilliard of Darby was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 139-08. Casey Ehmann of Darby was third in the 100 and the 200 and 400 meter races. Gracie Lang was sixth in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200. Amber Anderson was fifth in the 100 hurdles. Anna Stiegler of Florence was fifth in the long jump.
