Support for Stevensville School bonds

April 16, 2019 by Guest Post

By Debbie and Dan Severson, Stevensville

This letter is to express our support for the Stevensville School Bonds that we will vote on in May. We also want to thank all those that have worked so hard to bring such a well-planned project to our community. The school administration led by Dr. Bob Moore and the hard-working members of the School Board have really done a great job with this bond proposal. Another group that deserves appreciation and recognition is the citizen group that is working so hard to get the information out about the importance of this vote to the community.

Although we support the entire bond proposal and the reasons for each expenditure, there are a couple things that jump out at us as being really deserving of our consideration. 1. The School Board took the time to ask the community what was most important, and they listened to us. The bond is asking for money for what the community thought was most important and cut the items that were in the last bond that the community said should wait till the most important stuff gets done. 2. Safety—When I look at the bond proposal there are two items that are important for the safety of our young people that stand out to us. Today’s world requires that we have secure entrances for our school buildings, so we must fix that. The other issue is the location of Phillips Street that causes us to have to drive between the play ground and the school building. This has always scared us and the plan to relocate the street is an essential part of the plan. 3. A big expense of the proposal is the Vocational Agriculture and Technical Center that will prepare our students for today’s world and the jobs that need to be filled. I think that providing these technical and trade specific training opportunities is absolutely the right direction for our schools and so important for our community to support. I can see some of our students going directly from High School into a trade right here in the Valley that not only benefits the student but our whole community.

The complete bond proposal can be found at www.stevensvilleschools.org. Please join us in support of our wonderful community by voting yes on the Stevensville school bonds.
