Last year, the Hamilton Broncs suffered two losses in their football season. They lost to Columbia Falls in their second game of the season. The Broncs also lost to Columbia Fallsin their final game of the season, thestate championship game. So this year, when Hamilton traveled to Columbia Falls on Friday night, they mission was to revenge those losses.
Columbia Falls scored first in the game when Drew Morgan hit Colten McPhee from 53 yards out for the six points. Six minutes later, Hamilton’s quarterback Carson Rostad shot a 14-yard pass to Camron Rothie for the score and the PAT was good. Columbia Falls scored again with just under 40 seconds remaining on a Morgan pass to Lana Sapa from the four-yard line.
Rothie and Rostad teamed upagain when Rothie caught an 18-yard pass for the score. But Columbia Falls came right back and scored a 22-yard field goal and then Morgan and McPhee hooked up again for another scoring pass from 38 yards out.
But the second half was all Hamilton. Rostad connected with Rothie in the third quarter on a 17-yard pass for the touchdown. He and Rothie finished out the scoring with a 31-yard pass. In between, Mikey Golden rushed for a 10-yard touchdown to make the final score, 35-24, Hamilton. Rothie caught seven passes for 110 yards. The Bronc defense held the Wild Cats scoreless in the second half.
The Blue Devilsscored 24 points in the first quarter alone in their 42-31 win over Libby. After Libby scored a field goal early in the quarter, Corvallis’ Liang Liedle threw to Rory Jessop from 17 yards out for a touchdown. The PAT was no good. A few minutes later, Mason Murray, who was at the 30-yard line, caught the touchdown pass. The two-point conversion was good. Hunter Pinheiro completed the first quarter scoring with a three-yard push into the end zone and the pass from Liedle to Jace Barcus was good.
Liedle paired up with Jessop once again in the second quarter from 10 yards out for another touchdown and then in the third quarter Liedle hit Murray from 30 yards out for another score. Liedle had 231 yards passing.
Florence blanked Salmon, Idaho, 40-0, in Florence on Friday night. Quarterback Colby Kohlman passed for touchdowns of 30 yards and 20 yards, and rushed for three more on runs of 33 yards, 10 yards and 10 yards. Blake Shoupe caught the 33-yard scoring pass and Brendan Bailey caught the 20-yard pass. Shoupe also had a 10-yard touchdown run.
Darby defeated Victor at Victor on Saturday, 36-6.The game was closer the first half with each team only scoring one TD. Nelson Smith had a one yard plunge into the end zone for the score. The two-point conversion was good when Brandon Winter caught Smith’s pass.
Victor’s only score was in the second quarterwhen Bob Hotchkiss pushed in for the score.
Darby’s Dylan Parks scored three of the next four Darby touchdowns. Parks had a 40-yard run in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter, Parks caught a 40-yard pass from Smith and then Cole Kayser caught a pass for the two-point conversion. Parks also had the final score with a 25-yard interception to the end zone. Deric Parks caught the pass for the conversion. Smith also had a one yard run for six points.
