In Allen B. Gates’ guest column (Star, August 8), Gates suggests that we are in a political crisis, but offers no potential solutions other than compromise.
Our country’s political leaders have been quickening that political crises self-destruction pathway during the last several administrations. I have so stipulated in letters-to-editors during the abysmal Obama administration! Many Americans would agree with Gates that we are in deep political turmoil with only a small chance for turning things around unless we make compromises. The problem with more compromise is that America has already been compromised to a fault! More compromise simply will keep us on the pathway we are now on.
If we will ever be able to regain control of our country’s political future, it is absolutely mandatory that we return to being a constitutional republic – returning to the fundamental basics upon which our country was founded. This sounds old fashioned as hell, but no other path is sound, reasonable, or workable as already demonstrated by recent history! Our country’s forefathers’ thinking and planning was, and still is, rationally sound – much of the up-to-date modern day thinking by socialists and moderates is not. Constitutional amendments can be written, negotiated in Congress, and approved to incorporate any appropriate up-to-date modern day constitutional thinking!
Our Constitution has effectively and successfully guided America for more than 200 years! Liberals and moderates cannot not be allowed to ignore our Constitution just because they espouse modern day political change!
Allen Gates says
Compromise is how common ground is found. Compromise is a fundamental element of the Constitution. I hope you’re not suggesting an authoritarian or dictatorship based form of government. If not, exactly what are you suggesting?
