The juggernaut that is the Corvallis track team dominated the Western A Divisional track meet in Polson over the weekend. The boys’ team compiled 131 points which was 45 points more than second place Columbia Falls. The girls’ team had a bit of a challenge from Dillon and edged them out of first by just two points. In Class A, the top 10 finishers in each event will advance to the state meet in Laurel this weekend.
There is also another way for athletes to advance to state. That is meeting or bettering the state standards set by the MHSA for each class and each event. The results from track meets throughout the season are used to tally this.
Corvallis had a double winner in Grant Martin who won both the 1,600 and the 3,200 races for the Blue Devils. He had a time of 4:38.12 in the 1,600 and 9:58.74 in the 3,200, edging out teammate Anders Watt. Garrett Brown won the shot put with a throw of 51-09. Ridge Albright won the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-02.
Maureen Jessop won the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.75, just edging out Stevensville’s Megan Pendergast. Another Blue Devil Kailee McCready won the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.65, topping Pendergast’s time of 47.66. Hannah Hutchison of Corvallis won the high jump with a leap of 5-02. Calla Haldorson continued her dominance in the discus with a throw of 143-09.5.
Other Blue Devils who will compete this weekend are: Lainie Albright in the javelin and long jump; Ceara Chavez in the triple jump; Lauren Criddle in the 400-meter dash; Maureen Jessop in the high jump; Alyssa King in the 100-meter dash; Bree Lewis in the 800-meter run; Hadli Lords in both 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles; Hannah Martin in the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run; Kailee McCready in the 400 meter dash; Kylie Pease in the 300 hurdles; Brooke Wiltbank in the shot put; and Tayler Wright in the shot put and the discus.
For the Corvallis boys, these Blue Devils will also compete at state: Jakob Dalbey in the 400-meter dash; Cole Henry in the 800-meter run; Zach Jessop in the shot put; Logan Lewis in the high jump and long jump; Dante Venema in the pole vault; Joshua Wallace in the 100-meter dash, javelin, long jump.
Hamilton’s Michael Graves won the javelin with a throw of 181-11. The Hamilton girls were led by Brynnli Poulsen who won the 3,200 with a time of 11:41.99. She was 6th in the 1,600.
Two other Hamilton girls have qualified for the state meet. They are Molly Craig in the shot put, and Lyric DeVries in the 800 and 1,600 meter runs. Tyler Chouinard will also compete in the high jump. Josh Dickemore will compete in the 100-meter dash. Rounding out the Bronc qualifiers are Dalton Jessop in the discus, Mark Joyner in the triple jump and Bridger Williams in the pole vault.
Pendergast led the Yellowjackets with seconds in the hurdles. Ashton Lewis was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16-04.24.
Pendergast also qualified for state win the high jump. Lewis also qualified in the 200 meter dash. Helen Vanosdell qualified in the 400. Kellen Jones will compete in the shot put and Hunter Riley in the discus.
