Darby – Lawrence Lee “Larry” Jones passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 of natural causes peacefully at his home in Darby, Montana. He was born November 5, 1936 in Los Angeles, California to Lee and Theresa Jones.
Larry was raised in Turlock, California and graduated from Turlock High School in 1955. He married Colleen Foote and had three children: Michael, Lauri and Sheri. Larry attended college at the University of Pacific California where he earned a Masters Degree in education. He started his teaching career at Santa Cruz High School in 1962. Larry then went on to teach at San Joaquin Delta College from 1963 through 1999. As an educator and mentor, Larry touched the lives of so many, not only through education, but on the mat and on the field as one of the most influential wrestling and football coaches in the history of the school.
Larry married Rosalind Turner of Hayward, California on February 18, 1978. During this time he was an active member of the Central Valley Investors Group, a Naui scuba diving instructor and an avid scuba diver.
Upon his retirement from Delta College, Larry and Rosalind moved to Darby, Montana in 2001 where they built their retirement home and he lived out his days loving life and volunteering his time to such organizations as the Bitterroot Valley Rock Club, coaching Little Guy wrestling, hunting and enjoying the great outdoors with the love of his life!
Larry is survived by his children: Michael Jones and Lauri Jones, both of California and Sheri Jones of Butte, Montana; and his wife, Rosalind Jones and her son Eric Tobin, both of Darby. In addition to his wife and children, Larry was blessed with numerous grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Lone Pine Cemetery in Darby. Pallbearers were Michael Jones, Kyle Jones, Tyler Davis, Bobby Fisher, Brennon Fisher and Bryson Fisher. Friends and family shared memories and fellowship at the Jones residence following the service.
