There were 32 teams competing at the Missoula County Public Schools meet on Saturday at the newly refurbished Big Sky Stadium. The schools ranged from the Class AA schools of Glacier, Missoula Sentinel, Hellgate, and Flathead to small schools such as Power, Philipsburg and Victor. Glacier won the boys team scoring with 136 points but Corvallis had success and finish in fourth place with 76 points.
Corvallis’ Garrett Brown won the shot put with a state qualifying distance of 53 -3.5. He placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 138 feet. First place was Blake Linsted of Sentinel who threw 151-02. Zach Jessop was second in the javelin with a throw of 177-03 and qualified for state. Caleb Venters of Sentinel won with a throw of 179-10.
Blue Devil Anders Watt finished sixth in the 1,600 meter race with a time of 4:43.78. Isaac Schmidt of Hellgate won that race with a time of 4:26.14. In the 3,200 meter race, Watt finished second with a time of 9:55.48. Ian Curtis of Hellgate won with a time 9:50.40. Grant Martin was right behind Watt in the 3,200 with a time of 9:55.59 for third place. In the 400, Jake Jessop finished third with a time of 51.91.
Ridge Albright finished third in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, a state qualifying mark. Hunter Nicholson of Glacier won the event with an effort of 6-04. Jeff Stoker, Logan Lewis and Hamilton’s Tyler Chouinard all tied for fifth, clearing the bar at 5-10. Lewis was also third in the triple jump with a leap of 42 1/4. Glacier’s Nicholson also won that even with an effort of 45 feet.
The Corvallis 4×100 relay team placed sixth behind Glacier, Flathead, Sentinel, Seeley-Swan and Big Sky. The 4×400 relay team was second behind Flathead who had a time of 3:32.88. Corvallis’ time was 3:33.41 which is a state qualifying mark.
Florence only had one athlete place but it was a good one. Jethro Thorne ran the 400 in a blistering 50.48 to win the event and set the top mark in the state.
Hamilton’s Jacob Campbell was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 47-08. Campbell was sixth in the discus with a throw of 133-8. Another Hamilton Bronc, Michael Graves, finished third in the javelin with a throw of 176-01 which also qualified him for state.
Corvallis’ Calla Haldorson won the discus with a throw of 135-08. She has already qualified for state with an earlier mark. Denali Smith threw the shot put 35-02.50 which put her sixth. Jessica Thompson of Plains won the event with a throw of 40-03.5. Hannah Hutchison was fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5-02, a state qualifying height. Madison Boles of Flathead won with a leap of 5-04. The 4×400 relay team from Corvallis finished third behind Big Sky (4:11.39), and Frenchtown (4:17.41). Corvallis’ time was 4:18.64.
Stevensville’s Megan Pendergast took fourth in the 100 hurdles. She had a time of 16.95 while Laren Heggen of Sentinel finished first with a time of 15.27. Pendergast was third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.07. Adrian Schnee of Glacier won the event with a time of 47.80.
Hamilton’s Hennesy Meyer finished fourth in the pole vault with 8-06. Mabel Gardner of Hellgate won with 9-06.
