The divisional wrestling tournaments were held last weekend in Columbia Falls for the Western A teams and in Superior for the Class B teams. These tournaments determined who will advance to the state tournaments in Billings this weekend at the Metra. The All Class tournament will begin on Friday. The top eight wrestlers in Class A advance to the tournament while the top four wrestlers in Class B will advance.
Frenchtown won the Western A Divisional with 246.5 points. Hamilton/Darby came in seventh with 105.5 points. Corvallis was eighth with 81 points. Stevensville came in 11th with 49 points.
Hamilton picked up two championships. Michael Gold defeated Butte Central’s Clay Fisher in a 5-3 decision at 126 pounds. Hamilton’s Kyle Anderson defeated Columbia Falls’ Jakob Freeman at 205 pounds in a 7-3 decision. Bridger Williams took an 8-3 decision over Dakota Flannery of Whitefish for third place at 138 pounds. Hyme Anderson took fifth at 160 pours with a pin at 1:39 over Libby’s Tim Carvey. Dustin Copeland finished fifth at 152 pounds with an 8-1 decision over Robert Bertelsen of Whitefish. Daylon Moore finished seventh at 145 pounds with a pin over Polson’s Kaleb Unger.
Corvallis will have eight wrestlers in Billings. At 152 pounds, Drew Schmitt pinned Seth Cheff of Ronan at 2:45 for third place. Dante Venema finished fourth at 126 pounds after losing an 8-2 decision to Owen Brown of Ronan. Aaron Christensen was pinned by Columbia Falls’ Nathan Hader to finish fourth at 145 pounds. The Blue Devils have two wrestlers going in the 132 weight division. Triston Davis pinned Owen Indreland of Frenchtown at 3:24 for fifth place. Benji Opat won a 7-6 decision over Browning’s Tommy Campbell to finish in seventh place in the same division. James Wissenbach lost to Kedrick Baker of Polson at 120 pounds to finish eighth at 120 pounds. Randon Weidow was pinned by Jeffery Offenbecher of Libby to finish in eighth place at 138 pounds. Tucker Ewalt will also make the trip to Billings. He lost to Cyrus Sweedman of Libby to finish eighth at 285 pounds.
Stevensville’s Kyler Pancake lost to Cameron Brown of Polson, 12-3, in the championship at 145 pounds. Kellen Robbins took a 10-5 decision over Dean Kellogg of Whitefish at 113 pounds. Tyler Woods finished sixth at 285 pounds after being pinned by Sam Mocabee of Ronan. Hunter Riley had an injury forfeit at 170 pounds and finished eighth. Jacob Woods was pinned by Jasper Drake of Polson at 1:41 to finish eighth at 182 pounds.
Florence will send eight wrestlers to compete in Billings at the Class B finals. The Falcons finished in third place at the Western B Divisional. Eureka won with 209 points and Thompson Falls was second with 144 points. Florence had 135 points.
The Falcons brought home three championships. Avery Meinzen pinned Darwin Adams of St. Ignatius/Charlo at 3:19 minutes at 138 pounds. At 145 pounds, Jethro Thorne pinned Isaac Petz of Eureka at 2:49. His teammate, Anthony Dulac finished fourth in the same division after losing to Austin Stafford of Powell County. The final championship was won by Kyler Alm who took a 3-2 decision over Eureka’s Jonathan Schmidt at 160 pounds. Spencer Jones lost to Garrett Graves of Eureka at 182 pounds. Dax Miller finished third at 170 pounds after pinning Miles Anderson of St. Ignatius/Charlo at 4:21. Oliver Post will advance at 102 pounds after drawing a bye. The final Falcon moving on is O’Master Foster who finished fourth at 285 pounds after being pinned by Evan Hall of Superior.
