Shirley Ann Wheat

February 20, 2018 by Editor

Shirley Wheat passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 in Hamilton, Montana. She was 80 years old.

She was born Shirley Ann Romano in Oakland, California on October 25, 1937. Shirley graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco, California in 1955.

Shirley married Charles Wheat on January 5, 1957 in Oakland. She and Charles moved to Oklahoma in 1960 and on to Montana in 1977. When Shirley and Charles first came to Montana, they were members of the Bitterroot Back Country Horsemen. She loved to ride in the mountains.

Shirley excelled at everything she did. She was a chef, seamstress, hostess, designer, painter, quilter, gardener, animal lover, world traveler and friend. The one thing she was not, was average. She was a class act all the way.

She was a longtime and honored member of the Bitterroot Quilters Guild and an organizer of the Quilts 4 Kids program in the Bitterroot. She had a soft spot in her heart for any child suffering in any way.

Shirley is survived by her brother Lee Craig of Enid, OK; nephew Steven Craig of Enid, OK; niece Kimberly Moore of Yantis, TX; niece Chrystal Hamblin of Hunter, OK; several great nieces and nephews and three great great nieces and nephew.

She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Wheat in 2006, her sister Rose Mary Romano in 2008 and her mother Josephine Romano in 1991.

A memorial celebrating Shirley was held Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Daly-Leach Memorial Chapel in Hamilton, Montana. A service will also be held in Alva, Oklahoma at a later date.

Please express your thoughts and memories of Shirley on the online guest registry at www.dalyleachchapel.com under the obituary section.
