Shame on Daines

February 27, 2018 by Guest Post

Last Tuesday, February 20, Senator Daines released his plans for visiting with folks in four western Montana communities the next day. He was to appear at Al’s Cycle at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21. There were at least 60 people who came to ask questions about his Senate bill 2206 releasing Montana’s Wilderness Study Areas from their protected status.

I was shocked that Senator Daines would fail to follow his schedule and instead of starting the meeting at 11:15, he was seen leaving at that time, ducking his responsibility to meet with his constituents at the announced time.

It is very poor representation, and insulting, for an elected official – especially a national Senator – to purposely avoid any Montanans. By his actions that day, Senator Daines does not want to hear any pertinent information. It’s too bad, because there are a lot of well educated, long time residents here in the valley who really know these areas, especially the Blue Joint and the Sapphire WSAs. They could provide important information.

Why did you purposely avoid Montanans last Wednesday, Senator Daines? Montanans are not scary people, but are respectful and want to help you make good decisions. The United States Senate is not the place for people afraid of meeting with their constituents.
