The Darby Tigers made their first appearance in many years at the Western C divisional in Hamilton over the weekend. Unfortunately their first game was against the red-hot Arlee Warriors who rolled over the Tigers, 101-31.

Darby – Brandon Winter 8, Nelson Smith 10, Aaron Hansen 9, Cole Kayser 4.

Their next game was against Drummond in loser out action. Darby had trouble with the big guy in the middle, Riley Allen, and went on to lose, 65-47. Nelson Smith had 16 points for Darby who only has one senior on the team, Aaron Hansen.

Drummond 65, Darby 47

Darby – Nelson Smith 16, Gabe Smith 6, Tyler Davis 1, Aaron Hansen 7, Hunter Guerther 2, Cole Kayser 7. Winter 8.

Drummond – Andrew Gomez 1, Jonah Parke 2, Spencer Parke 4, Luke Holland 21, Wyatt Rigby 3, Colby Manley 6, Riley Allen 19, Leroy Davis 9, Damian Poole 6.

“These games are building blocks,” said Darby coach Sean Bryers who was happy to give his young team experience at this level. The fact that they lost their leading scorer, Dylan Parks, to an injury earlier in the season was also a factor in their loss.

“We’ve had a lot of community support over the season and especially this last week.”
