Stevensville Yellowjackets wide receiver Alex Gavlak has signed a deal to play ball for North Dakota’s Dickinson State University Bluehawks.
“A lot of hard work has paid off for him,” said Gavlak’s mother Rebecca.
“I was always told, you don’t have to play football, you don’t have to go to college,” said Gavlak. But he didn’t need any pressure, like a couple of his older brothers, Tyler and Zach, he found playing football to be something he especially enjoys and excels at. He was named All-State as a tight end.
His strong interest in football did not hold him back from participating in other sports. He was also on the Stevensville Yellowjackets basketball team and played baseball for three years for the Bitterroot Bucs.
Gavlak said he liked the campus at Dickinson and the fact that it was “not super big.” He’s met the coach and some of the team and said, “I love the coach there and they are the kind of guys I’d like to be around.”
Gavlak said that making the decision has brought him a lot of relief.
“I can relax now,” he said. “I am going somewhere that I can stay and play football for the next four years.” He said he’s considering a major in Biology, something in the environmental sciences and that he’s excited about that too, and “absolutely ready to be starting something new.”
