Stevi wins battle of Bitterroot in Corvallis

The Stevensville Yellowjackets had a strong second and third quarters and used that to take the inter valley win over Corvallis, 31-20. Corvallis got on the board first when Ridge Albright raced into the end zone from 12 yards out.

 

Corvallis didn’t score again until the third quarter. Drew Schmidt pushed through from five yards for a TD. Their final touchdown in the game came in the fourth quarter when Albright finished the game the way he started, with a 13 yard run to the end zone. Albright has taken over as quarterback as Liang Liedle is out with an injury for the season.

 

Stevensville went to work in the second quarter and scored twice, and then two more times in the third before the Blue Devils scored again. Alex Gavlak caught a 25 yard pass from Garrison Bradt and raced to the end zone. The PAT kick was off to the left and no good. It Bradt to Kaleb Behner from 16 yards out for the second ‘Jacket TD. Again, the PAT went wide. In the third quarter, Gavlak caught a 37 yard pass from Bradt. The final touchdown of the third quarter was a three yard pass from Bradt to Gavlak. The PAT was good. Stevensville’s final touchdown was an 80 pass from Bradt to Payten Davids in the fourth quarter.

 

The Hamilton Broncs kept their undefeated conference status with a 40-19 win over Butte Central. They are now tied with Dillon for first place in the Southwest A conference after Dillon handed Frenchtown their first loss. Carson Rostad threw four scoring passes. He threw the first touchdown of the game to Camron Rothie from 22 yards out. Bridger Bauder kicked the PAT. Rostad’s next scoring pass was to Tyler Chouinard from 30 yards. Chouinard caught another Rostad pass from 51 yards out in the third quarter and one from 78 yards out. Bauder had a four yard rushing score in the first quarter. Bauder also had an 85 yard scoring run in the third quarter. Bauder only missed one PAT in the game.

 

Florence took on defending Class B state champion Eureka on Friday night. The Falcons were able to move the ball but they couldn’t contain the Lion’s offense and lost, 56-20. Florence’s Cody Kohlman hit Marcus Zeiler from 27 yards out. The two point conversion from Kohlman to Kyler Alm was good. Alm also caught an eight yard pass from Kohlman in the third quarter and Zeiler caught a 26 yard pass for another touchdown. Florence is currently in fourth place.

 

Victor lost to Twin Bridges, 50-26. JD Kay scored a Pirate touchdown from one yard out in the first quarter.Eli Rosen also had a one yard scoring run, this time in the second quarter. Bob Hotchkiss had a two yard scoring running the second quarter and again in the third quarter.

 

The Class C playoffs begin this weekend. Victor has a record of 4-3 and are tied with Twin Bridges for fifth place. Charlo and Flint Creek are tied for first with perfect 7-0 records. Plains and Arlee are in tied for third with records of 5-2. One of Arlee’s losses was to Victor in the opening game of the season. That score was 36-28. The two will meet again in Arlee on Friday in the opening round of the playoffs.
