The Corvallis Blue Devils volleyball team are concentrating on one match at a time according to coach Kasey Arceniega. With this goal in mind, they are working on playing tougher defense, being more scrappy by not letting any balls hit the floor, and playing tough offense.
“Defensively, we’ve develop a lot more this year,” said Arceniega. “Even since last year, I think we are doing a little bit better as far as being scrappier. We’re a bit more well rounded.”
The team has another year of seasoning on them and one of the best setters in the conference in Katie Hurlbert running the offense. According to Arceniega, Hurlbert is a rock out there who doesn’t show if she’s excited or rattled. “She’s just what we need.”
Hamilton came to Corvallis on Thursday for a homecoming match. The Blue Devils won in three games but it wasn’t a walk in the park for them. Hamilton played tough and kept the ball in play for many long rallies. Arceniega said Hamilton is a very scrappy team and improving all the time. It showed on Thursday.
Hamilton was led by Royal Beyer and Hayley Hudgins who had three kills each and Hudgins added a block. Corvallis’ Maureen Jessop continued to be strong at the net with 11 kills and three plus blocks.

Stevensville split their matches over the weekend. Whitefish topped the Lady Yellowjackets in three close games on Thursday and then Stevensville defeated Dillon on Saturday. Angel Richards had nine kills and two blocks against Whitefish. In the Lady ‘Jackets win over Dillon, Mikayla Hall had nine kills as did Mikayla Newman. Richards blocked three times and Cassie Kopsa had 22 digs.
