Operation Christmas Child Countdown Event
Olivia Lajani is the guest speaker at the local Operation Christmas Child countdown event to be held Thursday, October 19 at 6:30 pm at Mosaic church, 206 W. Main, Hamilton. The countdown event is held to inform, inspire and encourage folks about the Operation Christmas Child shoebox project.
Five-year-old Olivia lalanji was told that something exciting would happen at church the next day. She recalls “going to bed extra early, hoping that would make the day come sooner. When I woke up the next morning, I felt it was the most glorious day ever. I was so excited to receive my shoebox and couldn’t wait to open it.” Olivia was born and raised in a small village in Moldova in eastern Europe. Her family was very poor so the Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift was very special to her. She now lives in Washington state and 20 plus years later, that day is still very special to her. Operation Christmas Child a project of international disaster relief organization Samaritan’s Purse selected Olivia to come and share the impact of a simple shoebox gift with valley residents. The project began in 1993. Since its humble beginnings, over 146 million children in over 160 countries have received these simple gifts of love, joy and hope along with the gospel message. Locally, residents throughout Ravalli, Missoula, and Mineral counties as well as Thompson Falls and Salmon, Idaho have contributed over 70,000 gifts since the project was introduced here in 1993. Last year alone over 9,000 gifts were donated. This year the local team is praying that residents will help them achieve a goal of 10,000 shoebox gifts. While the purpose of Operation Christmas Child is to reach out and show the love of Jesus in a tangible way to children in third world countries Samaritan’s Purse provides disaster relief around the world including significant domestic support. Samaritan’s Purse staff and volunteers are actively working throughout the south and southwest providing help to hurricane victims in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas as well as several other parts of our nation.
The countdown event is free to everyone. Come hear what a simple shoebox gift can do in the life of a child and her family. For further information contact Greg Reinhardt at 360-4253.
