Stevensville – Martha “Kit” Cameron, 82, of Stevensville went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at her home on Saturday, September 2, 2017 with her loving husband by her side. A caring and loving soul has left us for a better place. She was born into a Godly home at Fort Wayne, Indiana on April 18, 1935 to Rev. Walter and Helen Bradley, the youngest of the three children and moved with her family to Findlay, Ohio three years later where she became a talented musician with piano, flute and singing all through school, graduating from Findlay Senior High School in 1952. She then attended Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio for two years on a music scholarship. In 1954 she married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Del Cameron. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Kit had several jobs during the early years of her marriage that were mostly secretarial including civil service typist at Quartermaster Hdqt, Ft. Bragg, NC; secretary at Montana State Library, Missoula, MT; librarian at St. Patrick School of Nursing, Missoula, MT; Clerical Service for the Rhodes Scholarship Committee, University of Montana, Missoula, MT; Personnel Dept. at the U.S. Forest Service Regional Office, Missoula, MT; and in later years she retired at age 74 after 20 years of working at a local bank as a loan department secretary where she was always a welcoming and smiling face to those passing through the door.
Kit was a warm and gracious woman who dearly loved her family. She was a homemaker, a dedicated and devoted mother to her two sons, Brad and Justin, who were also her life, and she also dearly loved her grandchildren. Kit’s favorite jobs were raising her two sons with her husband, Del, and helping him in every way she could. She was a wonderful wife whose generous and loving heart filled her home as she unselfishly lived her life of giving and encouraging others. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed a good book. She was very grateful for the time she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren and loved every moment. She loved God with all her heart and she raised her boys to do the same. She was a woman who cared more for her family than for herself. She especially loved celebrating holidays and special events with her family.
Kit was her husband’s faithful right hand partner in their businesses. It has been said that behind every good man is an exceptional woman and Kit not only stood behind her husband but walked beside him as his right hand helper through life’s trials and successes. As a hunting outfitter’s wife, she did all the secretarial work and family chores at home when Del was gone with hunters.
Kit was famous for baking and cooking for hunters and other guests at their ranch where she prepared food for a dozen men. Pies were among her specialties and hunters were always guessing what kind awaited them as they returned from daily hunts. And she was the best camp cook on summer Bob Marshall Wilderness horseback trips with her husband and guests where she always had breakfast ready on a wood stove in her outdoor kitchen despite the early morning frost on some trips. And she gladly fried the fish that the guests caught on those trips wanting them, like Del, to enjoy their wilderness experience to the utmost. No one went hungry with Kit’s cooking.
Kit loved to ride horseback through the wilderness and camp along pristine streams where she could appreciate God’s handiwork in the solitude of nature. Like her husband, she enjoyed sharing these experiences with guests on many trips. In later years, she and Del traveled throughout the Rocky Mountain states, camping in the mountains and especially enjoying friends and mountain country in their favored Arizona and New Mexico.
Kit was always full of unconditional love, always had a smile, made many friends and made people always feel welcome in her life. She was a real people person and always tried to find something to like about everyone she met. She was a woman of great integrity and character and always lived by the highest of moral standards. She was guided through triumph and tragedy by her extraordinary faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom she always knew from a very small child. She was a very spiritual person who lived her faith all seven days of the week. She had a mercy heart, believed in the power of prayer and in miracles, and relied upon the strength of her faith every day. She was a prayer warrior and prayed daily for her family and many others. She always kept the Word of God in her heart and served her Lord until He took her hand and led her home. She will be missed but not forgotten while Heaven has gained a daughter of the most high God. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Kit was preceded in death by her parents and her brother. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Del, their sons Brad Cameron, Corvallis, MT and Justin Cameron, Pablo, MT, and granddaughter Allison Cameron, Pablo, MT, and grandsons Connor Cameron and Dawson Cameron, Corvallis, MT, as well as her sister in Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
