Kids manners series
If we want something, we say “please.” We say “thank you” when someone helps us or does something for us. Having good manners is important if we want to get along with others. Kids are invited to come to the North Valley Public Library on August 9, 16, and 23 from 1 to 2 p.m. for a three-part manners training series for kids ages 4-8, based on the book “Manners Can be Fun” by Munro Leaf. Enjoy stories about manners, fun games to practice using them, and even a craft! The North Valley Public Library is located at 208 Main Street, Stevensville. Women’s Newcomers Club
Have you recently retired and have extra time on your hands? Maybe you are new to the Bitterroot Valley and would like to meet new people. Or perhaps you’ve lived here awhile and would just like to meet other women. The Bitterroot Women’s Newcomers Club welcomes you to the next meeting, Thursday, August 10 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the First Christian Church. After this month’s business meeting at the church, the group will be traveling to the Sweet Root Farm for a tour. There will be a no-host picnic in the park for lunch. Science Club
SpectrUM Summer Science Club will meet Thursday, August 10 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the North Valley Public Library, 208 Main, Community Room, Stevensville. Ages 5-18 (younger siblings welcome), come and discover and explore how scientists are using natural biological systems uniquely to develop new ways to grow food, medicine and engineering designs.
Victor park board
The Victor Park District now meets on the second Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be Thursday, August 10 at 7 p.m. at the Farmers State Bank meeting room in Victor. This month members will talk about new projects they want to start, the park calendar, resetting the bike rack that got knocked down, and fall care of trees and grass. All are welcome but if you are interested in Victor’s parks and cannot make the meetings, there are still plenty of volunteer opportunities. Call Roger at 961-3953 for information.

Theater Workshop
Join Hillary Bard, a freelance theater director and instructor with a Masters of Fine Arts in theater, on Friday, August 11 at the North Valley Public Library, 208 Main, Stevensville, to learn about acting, the basics of theater, and perform drama exercises and games in an interactive, fun-filled environment! Run for the River
Join the Bitter Root Water Forum for a scenic run/walk along the Bitterroot River on Friday, August 11. This family friendly 5K begins and ends at Hamilton’s River Park. The race starts at 7 p.m., with the Splish Splash DASH at 6:45 p.m. The DASH is FREE to children age 10 & under with a t-shirt included. Run registration includes a tek t-shirt, beer or ice cream sandwich, and fun prizes! Pancake breakfast
The Florence Fire Department will be donating all proceeds from a pancake breakfast on Saturday, August 12 to the family of Carli Miller. Carli of Lolo, was 8 years old, and was a passenger in a vehicle that was hit by a pickup truck on Highway 12. She died of her injuries from the accident. Mark your calendars and come with your wallets full and your stomachs empty on Saturday, August 12 from 8 am to 12 noon, at the Florence Fire Station, 234 Holloway Lane in Florence (behind Town Pump). All proceeds will go directly to Carli’s family to help with expenses.
Beekeepers
Beekeepers of the Bitterroot will hold their regular monthly meeting on Saturday August 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Hamilton First Assembly of God, 601 W. Main, Hamilton (entry in the rear). Bring a nonperishable item as donation to their food bank in appreciation for the use of their space. Agenda topics will be: honey extraction (scheduling for club members to use the club’s extractor), Varroa mite treatments, the club’s and club members’ participation in the Ravalli County Fair, and getting ready for winter (believe it or not!). Bitterroot River Clean-Up
The Bitter Root Water Forum will hold the annual Bitterroot River Clean-Up on Saturday, August 12. Come volunteer in support of the river we all appreciate and rely on! Volunteers choose a site to walk or a stretch to float along the Bitterroot between Sula/Painted Rocks and Missoula. Volunteers clean up on your own time on the 12th and drop off trash at Hamilton’s River Park. MI support group
Bitterroot National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is starting a support group for families that have loved ones suffering from MI. The group will start on Saturday, August 12 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Cornerstone Bible Church, 280 Fairgrounds Road, Hamilton. For more information call 406-381-9884.
Victor Museum talk
Silk artist Georgine Forgatch, owner of Lisa Archer Silks in Victor, will give a presentation on Saturday, August 12 at 1 p.m. at the Victor Heritage Museum. She will talk about and demonstrate the process of silk painting. Come and participate in the Creation of two scarves. It will be fun. The scarves will be auctioned at the Silent Auction held with the Chocolate Tasting Party at the Museum in December, 2017. North Valley Public Library hosts Mark Lewing, author of “Lakota Lore: A Compendium of Thoughts and Knowledge of the Dakota Nation” on Saturday, August 12 at 4 p.m. Come hear anecdotes about the author’s experience researching the culture of the great Dakota Nation while working in the woods as a hunter, outdoorsman, firefighter, and forester throughout Montana. Golden Age Club Summer Picnic
The Hamilton Golden Age Club invites you to its summer picnic on Sunday, August 13 at 1 p.m. at the Golden Age Hall at 727 S. Fifth Street. The picnic will feature food, music and fun. The Club will serve fried chicken, rolls and coffee. Side dishes and desserts will be potluck. Serving will begin at 1 p.m.
Music by the ‘slightly famous’ Jammers will begin about 2 p.m. and continue until about 4 p.m. Dance, listen to the music or play a game of cards during the afternoon.
Admission for the dinner and dance is $6.00 per person. Income from these activities goes toward the upkeep and maintenance of the building and to make activities possible. Come have fun and support the Golden Age Club. Call 363-0142 to make a reservation.

Shakespeare in the Parks
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks will be performing “Macbeth” at Sapphire Lutheran Homes in Hamilton on Tuesday, August 15 at 6 p.m. Montana Shakespeare in the Parks is the premiere outreach program of Montana State University’s College of Arts and Architecture. Grants, corporate sponsorships, and hundreds of individual donors support the free performance. This year, vital funding from the National Endowment from the Arts and one of its flow-through organizations, the Montana Arts Council is under threat. All audience members are encouraged to support the performance in whatever way they can.
