Betty Lou Cromwell

July 5, 2017 by Editor

Missoula – Betty Lou (Thomas) Cromwell passed away Monday, June 19, 2017. Betty was born on April 3, 1934, in Missoula. She was the fourth oldest child among nine children born to George and Theresa Thomas.

From a young age, Betty’s mothering nature came out in her relationships with her siblings. She enjoyed giving her time to the people she loved.

On October 27, 1956, Betty married the love of her life, Phillip Cromwell. They had two wonderful children together that they raised on their beautiful property up Lolo Creek overlooking Lolo Peak. She loved to spend time with family camping, fishing and having picnics.

There are many things that stand out about Betty. The Missoula Mercantile held a place in her life since she was young. Many of the stories she told to her grandchildren were from her times shopping in the Merc. It not only represented the time and thought she put into her own appearance, but she spent much of her time looking for things to enhance the lives of the people she loved.

Exercising her right to vote and supporting the democratic process was very important to her. Not only did she make sure to educate herself and vote in every election, but she also loved to volunteer her time at the polls. She appreciated things to be neat and tidy. She spread her love in a manner that allowed even the thickest of skins to feel her warm heart. This love that she spread was shown through the love and support she received in her final days.

She was preceded in death by her father George Thomas; mother Theresa Thomas; sisters Pauline Miller and Annie Magee; and brother Frank Thomas and his wife Ella. She is survived by her husband Phillip Cromwell; daughter Theresa Goforth and husband Gene Goforth; son Bradley Cromwell; grandchildren Jeannette Sindorf, Brandi Whitney, Heather Vogel, and Leeanne McManus; great grandchildren Abby Rioux, Makenna Roberts, Hunter Harrington, Felicity Whitney, Aiden and Lilly Vogel, Katelyn Betts, Madison Betts, Logan Betts, and Christian McManus; and great-great grandchild Zayla Larson; siblings Rose Marie Cromwell and husband Russell, George Thomas and wife Sandy, Kenny Thomas and wife Penny, Bill Thomas and wife Carol, and Margaret Eskridge; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will be notified at a later date about the details of the celebration of life. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.whitesittfuneralhome.com.
