Last year, as a freshman, Calla Haldorson of Corvallis threw the discus 129-5 to claim the Class A championship in that event. This year, Haldorson was pushed by teammates Brookelyn Palin and Brooke Wiltbank throughout the season. In fact, Palin threw a 149-04 in the Western A Divisional last week which was the best in the state, and 25th best in the nation. But Haldorson wasn’t done. This week, at the State A meet in Laurel, she threw the discus 147-11 to keep the title. Palin finished third with a. throw of 133-07, and Wiltbank was fifth with a throw of 127-06.
Haldorson was the only individual event winner for the Corvallis girls. The 1600 relay team of Penny Jessop, Bree Lewis, Emma Warnken, and Heidi Nisly finished first with a time of 4:06.11, over a second faster than second place Miles City. The Corvallis girls finished in second place behind Belgrade.
In other events Palin finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 37-05. Penny Jessop was sixth in the 200. Nisly finished fifth in the 400 and second in the 800 and 1,600. (Pipi Eitel of Belgrade won the 400, the 800, the 1600, and the 3200.) Warnken was fifth in the 800. The team of Maureen Jessop, Ceara Chavez, Warnken and Penny Jessop finished fourth in the 400 relay. Hannah Hutchinson took fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5-03. Mary Royce tied for sixth in that event with a jump of 5-0. Chavez also took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 34-9.25.
Hamilton’s Reilly Rostad claimed the gold in the triple jump. She hopped, skipped and jumped 35-04 to take that event. She was second in the long jump with a leap of 17-05, just four inches behind Rachael McGree of Butte Central. Rostad finished sixth in the 100 and seventh in the 200. Hennesy Meyer finished third in the pole vault with an effort of 9-06. Kacia Guisinger tied for sixth in the high jump with 5-0. In the distance events, Sarah Passey took fifth in the 3,200 with 12:04.29 and Lyric Devries finished fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:14.57.
Stevensville’s Mariah Hinson took the top spot on the podium in the javelin. She threw the spear 127-09 for the win. Hinson finished third in the triple jump with an effort of 34-10. She was sixth in the long jump with 16-05.75. Megan Pendergast finished second in the 100 meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles. She was fifth in the high jump.
The Corvallis boys finished in sixth place behind Sidney, Dillon, Belgrade, Columbia Falls and Laurel. Ridge Albright won the high jump with 6-2. Braxton Roth took second in the triple jump with 43-09.25. In the throwing events, Garrett Brown finished fifth in the shot put with 49-03.5, and Zach Jessop was fourth in the javelin with 186-08. Bruce Thomas took fourth in the 400 and Jake Jessop was right behind in fifth. Carson Jessop was sixth in the 3,200. The 4×400 relay team finished fourth behind Belgrade, Sidney, and Fergus.
