
The Corvallis girls and the Corvallis boys each won the divisional championship at the Western A meet in Corvallis on Friday and Saturday. The boys topped Dillon for the championship, and the girls edged out Hamilton for their championship.
Ridge Albright and Jake Jessop were individual winners for the Blue Devil boys. Albright cleared the high jump bar at 6-2 for the win. Jake Jessop won the 400 edged out Matthew Rensvold of Polson for the win in the 400. The 4×400 relay team of Cole Wohltman, Bruce Thomas, Albright and Jake Jessop won that race with a time of 3:29.54. But the number of top 10 finishers for the Blue Devils made the difference for the boys. The top 10 finishers in the individual events will move on to state as well as those who have hit the qualifying standards over the season. The top eight relay teams will move on.
Hamilton’s Jaylen Taggart busted loose for a throw of 159-08 in the discus to take that event.
Hamilton’s Reilly Rostad was a double winner. She jumped 17-7.5 in the long jump to take that event and is currently the best in Class A in the state. Her effort of 35-06.75 was the best in the triple jump. Hennesy Meyer cleared 9-0 in the pole vault to win that event.
The Blue Devil girls were tough in the throwing events. Brookelyn Palin had a personal best, a divisional best and a state best in the discus with a throw of 149-04. Teammate Calla Haldorson was second with a throw of 139-00. She was followed by Brooke Wiltbank in third with a throw of 131-02. Wiltbank was third in the shot put with 36-1, followed by Palin with 35-10, and Haldorson with 35-9 for fifth. Tayler Wright was fourth in the javelin wth 117-8 and teammate Denali Smith was sixth with 109-4.
The 4×400 relay team of Penny Jessop, Bree Lewis, Emma Warnken and Heidi Nisly won that event with a time of 4:09.23. Nisly also won the 800.
Stevensville’s Megan Pendergast won the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.88. She was disqualified in the 100 hurdles but will still be able to compete as she had hit the qualifying mark earlier in the season.
The Class A State Track Meet will be held in Laurel on May 26 and 27th. The Class C meet will be held at the same time there.
The Darby boys finished fifth at the Western C meet in Frenchtown. All their points were from first place finishes. Kye McCollaum won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.90. He also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.24 which is currently the top time in Class C in the state. Evan Duggan won the 1,600 with a time of 4:37.94, the top time in Class C to date. He clocked 10:17.77 to win the 3,200. John Beckers was the final Tiger winner. He threw the javelin 177-08 for the win.
On the girls side, Darby finished in seventh. Gracie Lang was second in the 3,200 with a time of 12:03.70. Averi Parker of West Yellowstone won with 11:56.30. Lang was third in the 1,600 with 5:32.39. Natalie Yocum of Arlee won with 5:26.17. Lang finished fourth in the 800. Casey Ehmann was third in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles.
Payton Tillotson of Victor won the discus with a throw of 124-08. She finished third in the shot put with a throw of 32-02. The Victor 4×100 relay team finished fourth.
Florence’s Caden Venters won the javelin at the Western B with a throw of 177-00. Jethro Thorne won the 400 with a time of 51.30. He was fourth in the 100 and third in the 200. Justin Jones finished fourth in the 3,200.
