The Stevensville Garden Club meets every first Wednesday of the month at the Community Baptist Church, 409 Buck, Stevensville. Course in Miracles Study Group
You’re invited to a weekly ongoing and deepening discussion of “A Course in Miracles”, a journey of spiritual transformation. Living with Grief program
Hospice Foundation of America’s 2017 annual Living with Grief program “When Grief is Complicated” will shown locally on Wednesday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital Blodgett Room. The program is moderated by Frank Sesno, director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University. A sack lunch and refreshment will be provided at no charge. Spiritual Masters Video Series
A showing of the award-winning documentary “Awake—The Life of Yogananda” will take place Wednesday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1720 N. 1st Street (north of Sears), Hamilton. Yogananda brought yoga and mediation to the West in the 1920s. By personalizing his own quest for enlightenment and sharing his struggles along the path, Yogananda made ancient Vedic teachings accessible to a modern audience, attracting many followers and inspiring the millions who practice yoga today. Filmed over three years with the participation of 30 countries, the documentary explores why millions today have turned their attention inwards in pursuit of self-realization. The Bitterroot Aerie 1693 Fraternal Order of Eagles is having an election of officers on Thursday, May 4. Up for election are four trustee positions. Polls will open at 2 p.m. in the Eagles Lodge at 125 N. Second in Hamilton and close at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to vote.

The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, May 5 at 12 noon at The Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. Guest speakers will be Senate Majority Leader State Senator SD45 Fred Thomas, SD 45, House Majority Leader State Representative Ron Ehli, HD88 and House Appropriations Chairwoman State Representative Nancy Ballance, HD87, talking about the 2017 Legislative Session. K of C spaghetti dinner
The Knights of Columbus Council 6130 will hold a First Friday Dinner on May 5 from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at St. Francis’ Pastoral Center located at 411 S. 5th, Hamilton. This week’s meal will consists of spaghetti with meat sauce, a vegetables, tossed green salad, French bread, desert and soft beverage. The price for the meal is $8.00 per person, children under nine eat free so bring the kids! First Friday at Library
North Valley Public Library presents Arthur Kostuk, classical pianist, performing for the May 5 First Friday event from 6 to 7 p.m. This event is a must for classical music lovers. Arthur has performed at concert halls worldwide. Chicago newspapers have described him as “The Silver Bullet” for his ability to play rapid passages, his exceptional virtuosity and his ability to enthrall audiences. This free concert is a great opportunity for friends and family to enjoy the skill of an incredible pianist who has performed to audiences around the globe. Pie Auction
The Annual “Pie in the Big Sky” Pie Auction will be held on First Friday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Exit Realty, 300 Main. The evening promises to be an event of deliciousness and entertainment from the auctioneer team of Jim Pfau and Bill McNulty. There are pies of all descriptions, including all the classic dessert pies but also money pies, jewelry pies, garden pies and many more. Plan to attend this fun event. Stay a few minutes or all evening; you can successfully bid on a pie in as little as five minutes. All proceeds benefit the Stevensville Main Street Association.
Dances of Universal Peace
Dances of Universal Peace are meditations in motion that combine love, joy and sacred phrases with simple folkdance movements. They are done all over the world, and create a safe and upbeat atmosphere. Everyone is welcome; no experience is necessary. There is live music and refreshments. The next dance is on Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1720 North 1st St (Hwy 93), Hamilton in the Selway Shopping Center, north of Sears. Stevensville Playhouse production
“Fiddler on the Roof,” based on “Tevye and his Daughters” and other tales by Sholom Aleichem, will be presented May 5-21 at the Stevensville Playhouse. This well-known musical will put both a smile on your face and a tear in your eye. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain tradition despite the outside influences that enter his family’s lives. It includes the most popular song “If I Were a Rich Man” and many others. This adaption by Joseph Stein and music by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick has brought Tevye’s life, struggles, and family to life in a beautiful way for the entire family to enjoy. Travelers’ Rest State Park volunteer open house
Montana State Parks will host a Volunteer Open House at Travelers’ Rest State Park, 6717 Highway 12 W, Lolo, on Saturday, May 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. Come learn more about becoming a Montana State Parks Volunteer. Every year, Travelers’ Rest State Park welcomes thousands of visitors from across the state and around the country. Park volunteers help to enhance visitor experiences through guided tours, personal interpretation and educational field trips.
The open house will take place in the main gallery of the museum, with staff and AmeriCorps on-hand to explain the three stories of Travelers’ Rest: Lewis and Clark history, Salish history, and natural history. Visitors will also hear about the variety of volunteer positions available. Tootsie roll drive
The Knights of Columbus of Florence, Stevensville and Hamilton will hold their annual Tootsie Roll Drive on Saturday, May 6 at local stores. All proceeds benefit the Bitterroot Special Olympics, Ravalli Services and the State Special Olympics.

Ravalli County Republican Women present the Lincoln Reagan Luncheon with keynote speaker Congressional candidate Greg Gianforte on Saturday, May 6 at 11 a.m. at the Bitterroot River Inn, Hamilton. Dog training talk
Want to teach your dog to “come”? Want to teach your dog good trail manners? Want to teach your dog to do ANYthing? Natasha Osborn, a professional Bitterroot dog trainer, will be holding a free talk on dog training, with Q&A, Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. at the North Valley Public Library.
Natasha provides a full spectrum of dog training, obedience, behavioral advice, agility, hiking safety and etiquette with dogs, games, tricks and more. Natasha’s training methods are reward-based and force-free, and her discussion will focus on training while building a lifelong, cohesive, trusting partnership between owners and their dogs. Natasha has extensively studied and researched dog behavior and body language and has spent 25 years as a Certified Veterinary Technician. When not working, training or traveling to agility trials, Natasha can be found on the trails and mountains of Western Montana hiking, biking and horseback riding. She lives in Stevensville, with her five dogs, three cats, two horses, two goats and a hedgehog.

Student art exhibit
The Stevensville first grade art class taught by Kelsey Walsh will be displaying their artwork at River’s Mist Gallery on First Friday in Stevensville. The students have been studying about different artists and their art styles throughout the school year from Claude Monet to Michelangelo to more local art. They have also learned about perspective, horizon lines, shapes, and are just beginning to learn about shading. Integrating art and education and learning about art is part of Kelsey’s field project. She is going into her final year in the Creative Pulse Graduate program which will earn her a Masters in Fine Art at the University of Montana. This program emphasizes the integration of art and education. Each of the first grade students have grown significantly in their art skills and are coming into their own style. They will be displaying their watercolors along with Kelsey’s work. Come support these budding artists. The gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday.
Square Dance Club
Boots & Calico Square Dance Club will host its final dance of the season on Saturday, May 6 at the Golden Age Club in Hamilton. The theme of the dance will be “Fiesta!” Members will celebrate with a catered taco bar dinner starting at 6 p.m. Ray Dunbar will be calling a Plus dance from 7 to 7:30. Don Scheline will provide Round Dance music between tips. The Mainstream dance is from 7:30 to 9:30. Dance is the usual $5, taco dinner and dance is $7.50. Until the Club resumes in October, enjoy the many top notch callers at the Lolo Dance Center. As always, spectators always welcome.

Bitterroot College program
Join Commissioner of Higher Education Clayton Christian, leaders from the Montana University System (MUS) and the Montana Department of Labor & Industry (MTDLI) for “Partnering to Build a Better Workforce in the Bitterroot” on Monday, May 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bitterroot College in Hamilton.
As Montana employers continue to struggle with significant workforce supply and skill gaps, there is an urgent need for new and innovative partnership approaches to address these growing labor force challenges. The focus of this meeting will be how the private and public sectors can best collaborate to develop pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, and/or other customized education programs to fulfill priority workforce development needs in the Bitterroot Valley.
During the meeting, you and other area employers will have the opportunity to share your perspectives on current and emerging workforce development needs affecting the Bitterroot Valley. Following this discussion, MUS & MTDLI officials will share examples of “best practice” models to illustrate how pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs can be used to create new, sustainable “Talent Pipelines” to help you and other area businesses more effectively recruit, train, and retain a quality, skilled workforce.

Green Thumbs Up
Green Thumbs Up Garden Club will meet Monday, May 8 at 2 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton. The meeting is free and open to the public. New Ravalli County extension agent Patrick Mangan will explain what the extension program is and the wide range of support and services it offers to the public. Operation Christmas Child program
Cheryl Peirson, Operation Christmas Child regional manager for Montana, will be speaking Monday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at Mosaic church, 206 W. Main in Hamilton. This is a free event open to the public. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge about Operation Christmas Child which she will share about the impact a donor’s shoebox and the sharing of the gospel has on the lives of children who receive shoebox gifts as well as their families, friends and communities they live in. She’s been on numerous trips to South America, Uganda and the Philippines, to support outreach events for children receive shoebox gifts and hear about Jesus.

Cheryl has nearly 15 years of experience on the Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child staff. She came in on the ground floor of Montana’s relationship with the national Operation Christmas Child headquarters in Boone, N.C. Before that everyone had to mail their shoebox gifts to Boone!
On a daily basis, Cheryl manages area teams in Montana as well as Oregon and Washington. She has led multiple speaker tours as well, with shoebox recipients as they’ve shared their stories throughout the Northwest.
