With one week until the state cross country meet in Kalispell, Hamilton’s Jaycie Schmalz looked strong in her race at the Western A Classic at Fairmont Golf Course. She edged Kimberly Peacock of Columbia Falls for the win. Schmalz clocked a 19:25.4 while Peacock came through with a time of 19:28.8. Sarah Passey of Hamilton finished third with 19:34.0 and Bree Lewis of Corvallis came in fourth with 20:22.8. Albany Jessop of Corvallis finished sixth with 20:35.6 in the tight race. Corvallis finished second behind Whitefish in the team scoring and Hamilton was fourth.
Corvallis’ Carson Jessop finished second in the boys’ race with a time of 16:31.1. Sage Wanner of Columbia Falls won with a time of 16:24.1. Other top 10 finishers for Corvallis were Andrew Jessop in sixth with 16:51.7, Anders Watt in seventh with 17:01.2 and Joel Haas in ninth with 17:15.6.
Hamilton’s Matt Wilson finished fourth with a time of 16:46.2.
Corvallis won the team scoring with 35 points. They were followed by Frenchtown/Alberton (45), Columbia Falls (92), Whitefish (115) and Hamilton (126).
