Refuge Hunter Blind Drawing
The hunter blind drawing and pre-hunting meeting for the opening weekend (October 1 & 2) of the 2016 waterfowl season on Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge will take place on Thursday, September 29 at 6 p.m. in the Okefenokee Room of the Lee Metcalf NWR Headquarters/Visitors Center building on Wildfowl Lane. Anyone interested in hunting waterfowl on Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge on opening weekend must attend. Participants must bring the following information to be eligible for the drawing: ALS #, Federal duck stamp, and photo identification.
Health and Wellness series
The fall Health and Wellness Series will begin on Thursday, September 29 at the St. Francis Pastoral Life Center, 411 S. 5th Street, Hamilton. “Caring for the Caregiver: How to Take Care of Yourself While Caring for a Family Member or Friend” will be presented by Alan Baum at a free session at 3 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.
Being a caregiver is a stressful and demanding job that usually happens without forewarning or opportunity to plan ahead. Caregivers are susceptible to depression, illness, physical and emotional exhaustion. Any of these conditions will easily interfere with a person’s ability to be an effective caregiver. Learn ways to deal with emotions, make decisions, communicate better with family/friends, ‘take a health break’ as well as plan ahead for relief. A must for anyone involved in caring for someone.
4-H info meeting
Join 4-H! Come learn what 4-H has to offer at the informational meeting on Thursday, September 29 at 7 p.m. at the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton. 4-H clubs are groups of families that work together to share knowledge and to help kids learn practical skills and important values. Museum Apple Day
The 37th Annual McIntosh Apple Day will take place Saturday, October 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Ravalli County Museum, 205 Bedford, Hamilton. Hailed as the “Biggest Bake Sale Under the Big Sky,” the Annual McIntosh Apple Day Festival includes arts, crafts, food & produce from the local Hamilton Farmers Market as well as new vendors from outside the area. The highlight of the day is the signature Bake Sale. Hand-picked, locally grown apples are lovingly crafted into made-from-scratch apple pies. Beef kabobs, caramel apples and the museum’s famous
apple butter are also main highlights. Purchase raffle tickets to get
the chance to win from over 100 raffle items, donated by the vendors and other local businesses. Sign up for the silent auction and enjoy live entertainment.
Liquid Apple Night
The 3rd Annual Liquid Apple Night will be held Saturday, October 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Legion Park on S. 2nd in Hamilton. Enjoy a relaxing and refreshing evening under the stars! Sample delicious cider created by cider makers from the Rocky Mountain northwest, locally catered food, and music. This event takes place in Legion Park, in the evening, under the beautiful Montana sky. Burn barrels and propane heaters will be available for keeping warm and toasty! Center for Spiritual Living
“Self Transformation Infuses Global Transformation” will be presented by Jon Bradbury, a CSL Licensed Spiritual Practitioner, on Sunday, October 2 at 10 a.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living 1720 N. 1st Street, Suite C in Selway Commons, north of Sears in Hamilton. Bradbury will inspire participants to look within and be the change they want to see in the world. National Life Chain
National Life Chain will take place on Sunday, October 2. Throughout America and Canada, National Life Chain Sunday will draw church congregations to their local sidewalks for prayer and public witness. Rotary Club
Future Farmers of America (FFA) will be the subject of the next meeting of the Hamilton Rotary Club, on Monday, October 3, at 12 noon at BJ’s Restaurant, 900 N. 1st, Hamilton. 2016. Jay Meyer, lifelong FFA supporter, Brandon Braaten, Corvallis High School FFA Advisor, and Cassie Tintzman, Victor High School FFA Advisor, will be the featured speakers. Bitterroot Valley Chorus
The Bitterroot Valley Chorus, in its 44th season, has begun rehearsals for this year’s Christmas concerts. The Chorus rehearses each Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the choir room of Hamilton High School from the end of September until the two concert performances on December 10th and 11th. There is a $25 membership fee for all adult members of the Chorus, payable at the first rehearsal. Interested singers of high school age need to obtain the approval of the artistic director and conductor, Peggy Leonardi Bucheit. There is no membership fee for high school students.
The musical program for this season includes some exciting new pieces, such as “Rise Up!”, “Comfort and Joy,”, and “Cold December Flies Away,” small ensemble performances and many more seasonal favorites. There will again be opportunities for the audience to join in singing during the concert.

Nonviolent Communication Discussion Group
Learn to communicate in a non-violent way. Peace and violence start within each individual and is expressed by the way we communicate with one another. This discussion group is based on the book “Nonviolent Communication—A Language of Life” by Marshall Rosenberg. Sons of Norway
Bitterrootdalen Lodge, Sons of Norway will hold its traditional “Norwegian Bingo” and White Elephant Auction event on Tuesday, October 4 starting at 5 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 275 Hattie, in Hamilton. The Lodge will provide roast chicken main dish, drinks, and service. Members and visitors are invited to bring a side dish, and a white elephant item for the auction.
The Lodge will also observe Leif Erikson Day, which falls on October 9th, to honor the first documented landing on North America by Europeans, in the year 1000. There were settlements along the east coast of what is now Canada and New England, with new evidence of fur trading and commerce by Norwegians for several hundred years before the voyages of Columbus. Fly Fishers
The monthly meeting of Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot will be Tuesday, October 4, at BJ’s Restaurant in Hamilton. Social hour is 6 to 7 p.m. Cocktails/dinner are optional. The presenter is Chris Clancy from Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Most everyone knows Chris who is a fisheries biologist in this area. He will focus on several short subjects: West Fork Bitterroot issues, hook scarring, brown trout expansion abd Skalkaho Creek bull trout. Bird migration presentation
Kate Stone will give a free presentation on bird migration, with a special focus on Bitterroot Valley birds, on Tuesday, October 4 at 6 p.m. at the North Valley Public Library in Stevensville. Have you ever wondered where Montana birds go in the winter? Have you ever wanted to join a bird migration project? Kate will share information about how scientists study migration, where and how Bitterroot birds travel, and how you can get involved in migration projects. Kate is an ecologist at the MPG Ranch, a private conservation property in Florence. She also serves on the board of Bitterroot Audubon.
